In other news, I picked up some new toys!

1. Warn Highmount Winch for $250! Hand controller is stuffed and the clutch is stuck but I will rebuild that in good time.

2. Freshly rebuilt 4speed with fariy overdrive! - This is a great way to keep it origional without losing that top gear. And it was only $500! I can sell my old 4speed for half of that.

3. 2x 12inch LED light bars, and 2x 7inch HID spotlights for the bullbar! all up just under $200.

So basically I have to spend some time installing this and less time on ebay.

I took a day off work expecting my new transmission and PS pump + bracket to be here but no luck! Adding insult to injury the old man has borrowed my compressor and my mate had forgotten to return my 4' grinder. so I really had little to do.

I bolted a few parts back onto the chassis and its starting to look good with the zinc plated bolts and the gloss black parts.

Image

And I drilled out the backing plate for the PS pump but I couldnt get the crush tubes cut because. . . . . . . No damn grinder

Image

Body is going onto the traielr tomorrow so I can start to weld in some new steel for the footwells.

Image

and I have lined up a new bell housing with a taco sender ! that was a bit of a score. so I got a new slave cylinder as well to prevent any problems appearing down the road.

This is the old with the new to come.

Roof console is done! Its in the troopy at the moment, but it will bolt right out and go into the ute when its done.

I also started a bracket that will hold my high lift on the foot rest passenger side, the same little mount will hold the UHF aerial.

That's a great job on the over head console mate. Love it. You've inspired me to clean mine up and enclose it. I have previously kept it open so that a whole manner of things can be stuffed up into it; bags of chips, winch remote etc.
There is a mess of wiring running up there now though so a unit like yours would be smick.
I also need to relocate the head unit as my new Vintage air unit takes up the under dash space.

You made the power steering upgrade look bloody simple! I have bought most of the bits but I haven't done it yet as it means taking it off the road for a while. Do you have a list of parts you used?
I have a 79 shaft that supposedly fits down to the 60 series box; I need to research on how to join the box to those horizontal arms next.

Do you have a thread on your troopy?

Thanks mate,

No thread on the troopy, its no where near as neat. I just took it to the beach and it got wet inside so I stripped the interiour.

The PS setup was actually pretty easy, heres a rough listing of parts.

60 series knuckle arms
75 series steering rods
60/75 series PS box
60 series pitman arm
10mm thick steel chassis plate
4x steel tube chassis crush tubes

80 series steering rag joint
55 series steering shaft

Thats all I can remember of the top of my head.

Thats not just an oil filter thats a double filter, the bottom one is a normal oil filter and the top one is a centripital (spelling?) oil filter, basically it spins the gunk out of the oil, and it gets cleaned out every now and then.

They are getting rare, I got lucky with the '81 model having one, my '83 troopy doesnt have one on its 2H either.

Sorry all, not much action lately.

I have been working long days and then when the job finished I went straight into a 7 day camping trip in yurigir national park. (pebbley beach is nice but not all its cracked up to be, sandon is still the best campsite there!)

I am going to grind clean the underside of the wheel arches, tub and tray and paint them all with a couple of coats of killrust.

Then I can start to look at the paintwork.

I got the itch to do some fabrication this week, and since I didnt have steel for the trailer I decided to weld up some mounts on the bullbar, and weld up the cracks in the passenger side wheel arch, the bullbar was rust converted before painting, and I forgot to wash it of, so I need to paint it again

I picked up (or picked out - as I had to pull it from the truck myself) my 60 series 5 speed, however I still dont have a bellhousing, the 60 series had a marks adaptor LS1 bellhousing, which should fetch a few $$.

Image

I will be using the 47 series crossmember and transmission mount, with the 60 series transmission so I cleaned up the old mount.
