80 Series Ute, engineering is next

Unread post by patroler » February 28th, 2014, 12:11 am

I have dreamed of having an 80 series for years, finally last year we were able to get one.
97 gxl, sagged 2 inch suspension and 2 inch blocks on at's. Mighty 4.5 petrol to suit some future plans. Pretty boring really. 1st stage is a bit of a tidy up and back on the road within 3 months because im hanging to actually drive the thing.
Main aim throughout this whole build will be to keep it 100% legal in Qld, I'm not wasting my time arguing with police or transport department people.
this was fitting it into the garage, had to air down and put some tyres on the back to get it under the door.

Stripping the paint as well for a re spray, not sure on colour atm though, trying to decide between a really bright white and the metallic green (dark) on the newer commodores.

Found some new body blocks to put in her, 65mm diameter ones to try and avoid any cracks to the body. Also got some adjustable koni's as the ironman suspension in there now is stuffed.

Well thats about how its sitting now, and I have just started sound proofing it with rattle stop, the stuff looks all right, hope it works.

I like a good chop!!!!

I know it sounds weird but have a look at some of the non metallic colours that Hyundai have. They have a dark grey and silver which I reckon would be perfect for an 80.
2013 Auto LS Challenger with stuff

Not sure how good it'll be....guess we'll find out soon. :D
My missus loves the dark grey, i've been trying to talk her into white. I'll check them out, thanks.

Bit more sound deadening done.

Image

Final cut done. Cutting through the bottom of the door frame wasn't a lot of fun with a 5inch, should have just bought a 9 inch before i started this.

Image

Image

Not totally happy with the little kick out at the rear of the door, but due to lack of talent levels... ohh well, i can live with it. Would look a lot better just continuing straight though.

Image

The cut through the bottom of the door frame. i have to make a bit more of a cut out of this so that i can weld a bit of plate in there, this will then help support the bracing wall.

Bit more of this crap sorted. i'm not enjoying this part at all.

Image

First part of wall. I'm loving the really bright white, think i may have decided on the colour.

Image

Bracing wall started and tacked together. I have to find a window now so that i can get the top part accurate.

The white is just undercoat.... makes the standard colour look yellow.

Just undercoating a few bits then i'll go throw them in the other shed, trying to clear a bit of room really so i can make some more mess.
