I was in a similar position a few years back. I was able to buy my dream BMW M5 sports saloon type of thing. I loved it and
babied more than anything. You could eat of the floor if you were allowed to do so anyway. I would wash and polished all the time. I would avoid gravel roads etc. But so now and then I would "let her go" and man did I love the stupid speed that thing would get up to. But one day someone offered me a bunch of dollars that would change a few things for the better for a long time.
I ended up selling it and man did it hurt. But it did made things possible that would have taken us otherwise a very long time before it would happen or it might have never happened.
I miss my BMW but have never looked back.
My family was just that little bit more important.....
But everyone for itself hey!!

and maybe one day.......i might buy another one.....maybe....
Pretty much my thinking exactly.

Thanks all!

Another cool thing recently completed. I needed a new glow light, and brake and battery warning lights for mine. I found some locally 2nd hand, but couldn't justify the price. Decided to design some up and have them made and we now sell them through Monster Rides. (unfortunately the filter one ended up a little off center)

Lol, nice find Marcus. That is pretty darn cool.

Would be cool to build a coil-overed wheeling version of my ute on big rubber using some of his ideas.

Hey twisty hope your still floating bout, I followed this build on the 40 facebook page and made me finally get n with my 60 build, 1 question I wanted to ask you was with your engine choice, why did you opt for choosing to turbo the 2h over putting in say a 1hz? I'm deciding how to proceed with my 60 currently and have been told by some to not rebuild the 2h and turbo it due to it being a old engine and weak heads and stick in a 1hz, just wondering what your thought process was during the whole resto when it came to this, again love the build

So it's been a long time since I updated here. Ute has had some finishing touches done and is finally getting some use and even dirty!!

First thing was I added some leaves back into the rear springs which levelled it out much better.

And then the coolest mod, some hand painted pin striping by Rod at Eastcoast Airbrushing.

Went with double chocolate lines down the sides and a small design on the centre of the bonnet and the tailgate.

Also had the original TOYOTA font airbrushed onto the tailgate to look like the original stamped one.

After about 1500kms of driving since the restoration the old tired 2H really started to spew massive amount of oil out of the crank case breather. I had a provent fitted to try and catch it, but the filter blocked within the 1500kms. My original motor was just too far gone to be running the 12psi (up to 15 occasionally) boost. I thought this would happen, just not this quickly.

Turned out a mate had an excellent condition 2H under his which I ended up purchasing. Fitted this over a couple weeks and the difference it how it runs is amazing. No smoke on cold starts, smooth idling, and smoother power. Well worth the effort.

Old engine coming out.

While I was doing the engine swap I had the stainless intake pipes and tailpipe polished by Darrell's Metal Polishing.

New engine all in and running.

Also fitted some genuine Toyota mud flaps to the rear.

With a trip to Landcruiser Park coming up for "Roothys Biggest Tagalong" and the opening day of the "Cassic Landcruiser Club of Queensland" I had to get some tie downs sorted.

Ended up getting these tie down rails from Brendan at The Ute Shop. Each rail was 2.4m long and I cut them down to suit the length of my tub. Then had them polished by Darrell's Metal Polishing again. Really happy with how they work, and that they also act like rub rails. I plan to add another one to the front of the tub so it's easier to tie things into a corner.

As quickly mentioned above the Classic Landcruiser Club of Queensland recently started up. If anybody with a 40/42/45 series landcruiser is interested in joining here is a link to the website.

http://www.classiclandcruiserclub.com.au/

I ended up designing the logo for the club. Pretty stoked with how it turned out.

Some pics from Roothys Tagalong weekend at Landcruiser Mountain Park (and the opening of the Classic Landcruiser Club of Queensland). Ute went really well out there, with the only drama being the intake hose popping off going up the range on the way out there, then a blocked air filter from the air filter getting a bit wet in the big pen then covered in dust on the way back to camp. Sunday morning saw the filter caked solid and not letting any air in.

I entered the ute in the show n shine held out there and ended up winning best truck overall with a prize of an Opposite Lock 40 litre fridged (Stoked!!!)

Me proud as punch to finally have the 45 out on some dirt/camping.

Posing with Roothy at the judging of the show n shine.
Image

Then of course he had to take it for a drive.
Image

Which in turn meant I took Milo for a spin. (I'll keep the ute thanks, haha)
Image

Image

Now the show n shine was done it was time to get it dirty. So went in to the pig pen for a couple drinks and a dunks in some mud. Need to re-visit my airbox setup for any future water/mud crossings. I thought it would be pretty protected in the back passenger corner of the engine bay sucking through the vent on the side of the cab. But the filter got a little wet then blocked with all the dust on the drive back to camp.

Back home with the Opposite Lock 40 litre fridge I won in the show n shine.
