Twistys 1977 HJ45 Ute

Unread post by Twisty » June 5th, 2013, 8:02 am

Picked up this on the weekend. Going to be my new daily driver for a while. The wife will be driving the FJ Cruiser.

Details
1977 HJ45 Ute
2H 6cyl. Diesel (out of a 60 series)
5 speed (out of a 60 series)
Rear housing from a 60 series
Has all the front end gear to fit 60 series p/steer and disc brakes

Plans are to loose all the stickers, bullbar, and mirrors. Fit stock bumper and mirrors, and just get all of it looking as factory as possible. Looking at turbo'ing the 2H too.

Very nice, This is one model that I really like the look of with the pizza cutter split rums.
If it can't be fixed with duct tape or a hammer, It must be electrical

Should come up even better with the standard front bumper on it.

Borrowed a stock bumper off a mate this week, plan will be to copy the size and shape of it with some C channel.

Missy, its probably 95% rust free. 1 guard is fibreglass and the other has some dints, and rust at the bottom, so picked up a couple of rust free guards this week. Other bad bit is both sills have a had a hit offroad, so are a little bent, and some rust starting it one. Will get this fixed soon but.

Got some new plans for the tray now. Huge thanks to James (MadCruiser) for getting in touch and letting me know he has a stock style side tub available. Needs a bit of work, but should be easy enough, just time. Plan will be a RHS frame for it and run a timber floor in it.

This is what it looked like before the rusty floor was removed

Whats the plans. I like the idea of shortening the ass as it sort of looks weird with that much over hang compared to none at front.

So I lasted almost a whole month with the "keep it stock plan"........

17x8.5 Standard by Method Race Wheels from Monster Rides. Will fit some 35s to these...(may steal the MTZs off the FJC and fit all terrains to it).

Other new plans/ideas.....
Bob the styleside tub a little (maybe 300mm)
Set the width of the styleside tub slightly wider then stock so it covers the tyres (Rims are zero offset, but a 60 series diff is fitted in the rear, so track remains around stock)
Wider front gaurds to match
Plate style front bar (similar to my old silver 40) and plate rear bar.
Sliders by Brooksy
IFS hubs up front to match the rear 60 series diff and limit scrubbing of the 35s on the leaf springs because of the low offset rims
If the styleside panel work ends up nice enough, paint it silver.

BWAAAAAAAAAAAAH Twisty said the word Stock. Only know of you mainly through the Outer's forum. But I new this would last to long as a Stock 40. I don' think its your 4B Nature...

Nice wheels, There going to look sweet with the highway Terrain shoes rolling round as it going to be your Daily Driver. ;)
