Will a Pajero NT/NW engine fit into an NS?

Unread post by Ian Johnston » February 21st, 2016, 8:16 pm

Maybe a long shot, but does anyone know if a common rail diesel out of an NT/NW will fit an NS without major issues.
I would think the engine itself will fit, but not sure on the electrics side of things.
Plenty of NT/NW 2nd hand low klm engines about.

Engines are the same 4M41 but the NT did get some mods to its valves/turbo and received a different transmission (Aisin unit) which is physically bigger than the NS Jatco unit. Might need a different ECU to run it as well as the NT has a passive DPF in the early models.

Thanks Dave. I gathered they were the same engine mechanically, just bigger turbo and different tune as such.
I am going to do some checking at my local wrecker to see if the sensors are in the same position as the NS, look at the possibility of fitting a long engine, and fitting my accessories. Maybe a waste of time, but will look into it.
