Sloppy steering after king pin repair! Any ideas?

Unread post by Jen1991 » January 12th, 2016, 9:49 pm

I just got my 98 model cruiser Trayback back from getting the king pin done because it was pulling badly to the left. It seemed alright until I drove it on the dirt road home, there is a lot of movement in the front wheels with not much reaction in the steering wheel. If I lock the hubs in there is a bit of improvement in stability but not much...

Firstly, Welcome to the forum! By kingpins, you mean swivel bearings, don't you? What does the receipt say? And, did you get a wheel alignment done after? Its quite probable that if they only did the swivels, the wheel alignment would be out, and that would cause it to wander on the road. If the old girl hasn't had any front end work done for awhile, there could be other things worn too, like tie rod ends, even a bit of wear in the steering box( which can be adjusted out if not too bad) I'm surprised the place which did your swivels didn't check for other things. . . they usually try to find something else to charge you for!! :(
