Could those that have fitted canopies comment on whether they have had any issues with tub cracking in the front corners. I'm currently saving up for a canopy, but can't decide which one. Concerned about mounts and whether they will cause cracking.

Look on ARB's web site - and call them.

Heres a picture of my ARB canopy with ARB roofrack. They put steel supports inside the canopy when installing the rack. No need to have them there otherwise.

In saying that I would consider others if I had my time again, large gaps at rear and leaks water at front but I can't tell whether its from gaps in the tub itself or canopy seal.

I managed to get them to fix up the leaks in the front. There where some areas in the tub where the sealant/silicon was incomplete. Get a torch with someone else shining from outside while your inside to help identify the holes and insist they are fixed. They still didn't fix the gaps in the rear seal.

Cheers,

Mike

I sent an email to ARB last week & had a call back from them late Friday so we'll see what they can come up with when I'm in touch with them tomorrow. That was a good idea re the torch looking for gaps, so did that but only lower edge of back door was gappy. Wasn't pleased with a rubber stop on the window seal that came off after washing the car, seems it doesn't want to stay in place. Overall the canopy looks good on the Navara, better if the sealing problems could be resolved

I got the Ford (Aeroklas) canopy, excellent quality and build. I like the look of it but the main drawback is the cost of bars to go on it from Ford. They are 1300 fitted for the 150kg rated ones. Im thinking of selling it to get the arb one as I need bars/rack for my Kayaks etc.

I read about the ARB canopy and rack splitting the tub on the ford australia forum. The guy there had pics of the tub with a big split in it. He has since found out that ARB has changed the framing in the canopy/tub to strengthen it. His was an early one with a weaker framing system.

Picture 004.jpg
I have a Toyota Canopy ( ARB ) with a rack no problems at all, I guess we all need to realise is that I don't think any canopy is 100% waterproof or dust proof, a small price to pay for what the canopy gives us, security, increased load capacity, a home for a draw system, home for fridges etc. A little bit os silicon and some high density foam around the tail gate and you can get close to a very good seal. Be careful with these sporty looking canopy s because if you decide to put draws in later it will leave very little room from top of draws to top of roof to the point that a fridge will not fit. also lift up windows far out way sliding windows for access unless you have the mutt in the back then one of each would be better for him to get fresh air and not jump out. Im a bit soft, and my mate rides in the air con, I have 2 lift up windows and my fridges are anchored, I access them through the windows saves buying slides and I can pack around them and do not have to worry about fouling slides or having to move stuff to slide them out. Hope this helps CHEERS.

Fast forward re the issues with my ARB canopy. I was in touch with Jess ARB, very helpful, am taking car in this week to have canopy checked out. Visited the local Viper 4x4 workshop for work we're doing nxt week, he looked at the canopy & said the local Nissan dealer who'd installed it did the worst job he'd ever seen, that it wasn't straight & the tailgate wouldn't shut on the RHS, that it was missing rubber & aluminium channel fitments, that it was missing a steel support frame inside.

Tomorrow I'm taking photos before driving up to ARB, see what they have to say then come & visit the local Nissen service dept & absolutely give it to 'em! Both barrels! Threaten legal action etc if they don't foot the cost of rectifying the issues.

The main problem is, according to ARB, that because this place isn't an approved ARB fitter (well, I didn't know this at the time & they never said anything) the warranty is null & void. So, I'm gonna start off nice & if that doesn't work...I guess I'll be escorted off the property & going back to the fantastic Greg & Narelle at Viper Installations to fix the bitch of a thing up.

Yes have seen these before, nice canopy.

My situation has all worked out well. I took the car back to ARB & they refitted the canopy. They said the tub was a bit crooked, looked like it had carried a heavy load in a previous life which had bent the hinge on the tub door. They did a bit of persuasive work & got it realigned again before refitting the canopy which was very decent of them. They reapplied the tape across the back door & took out the little rubber wedges which had been left in after transporting. All in all I'm happy with the canopy.

We bought some marine grade carpet from bcf & will line the tub & walls with that, install a vent & tomorrow drop in to Scott's Old Rubber in Oakleigh while we're in Melbourne to get new seals to close off the gaps in the door.

One of the issues with having a ute is the fitting of a roof rack. It wasn't until ARB pointed out that the tub/canopy & cab flex differently because the are not a whole unit. Makes sense. So we are looking at getting an 1800 long canopy rack & canopy fit kit from them. Along with install costs should cost about $1100. Their Ballarat shop has 10% off stock as part of their open day this saturday (2/2) so we might get some of the extra equipment we need while we're at it.

I have the EGR Canopy purchased through Mazda. My advice based on my year long drama's with EGR accessories would be to go somewhere else.... EGR's attitude to customer service and quality assurance is third world AT BEST.....Mazda have been more cooperative but are still being hamstrung by EGR on the bullbar issue..... I doubt EGR will be supplying future models once their currect contract is up......I have been waiting four weeks] to get a rear window that exploded (and damaged paint on the canopy and tub) replaced....EGR simply dont give a *****, despite being aware I have been waiting a year for the Bullbar to be fixed properly..... :irked:

NEVER AGAIN.

Interesting. I have the EGR Premium canopy and have been happy with it. Not sourced through Mazda though. What happened with the back window?? Four weeks seems like a long time to replace a faulty product, surely they could pinch a piece of glass from a complete canopy to get you sorted?
