Your avatar - is it appropriate?

For the stuff that's NOT 4WD related, here's where you can come on in and discuss it, but do play nice!

Your avatar - is it appropriate?

Unread post by Brendan » January 12th, 2010, 2:06 pm

Hi all. I've got a request that I'd like you all to respect - if anyone has a girly pic or otherwise potentially offensive image/comment as their avatar we'd like you to remove it.

Why, you ask? We want this to be a place that anyone can come on and access. There's been a no-porn rule in place forever and I've sorta turned a blind eye to bikini girls in avatars because it was more of an occasional thing but it's getting more common, so we're going to put a blanket 'g-rated' rule in place.

Before you kick up a stink, ask yourself - is it really worth it? There are literally millions of websites on the internet that you can find girly pics on, even Blind Freddy could find em (and go blind again in the process).

Imagine you're at home checking the forums, scrolling down through posts with your young kids running around the room, then you get something like an avatar in question pop up out of nowhere, without any warning. It's just not appropriate for an online community who share a common passion for 4WDing!

Let's work on a grace period of a week or so for everyone to see this notice and change their avatars. After that, if it's reported to me and I have to change it myself, I will -- along with giving you a 48hr spell in the sin bin. Please let me or the Admin fellas know if anyone isn't abiding by these rules, the other moderators have enough to do as it is.

Thanks for respecting this request.

I am closing this for now Bendan can read it when he is on next and deem what action should be taken. Personally I think its time for a few people to work out the true reason they frequent this forum.

Thanks Boof. I thought this was a pretty reasonable request and that I explained it clearly. To be fair to everyone I left the thread open for discussion but I haven't heard a valid argument against what I'm saying in here. Last time I checked no-one had a beach full of scantily clad women in their living room. And it's not just 'girls in swimsuits' - I was trying to be tactful, but some of the images I've seen are pretty graphic. That's the difference between the avatars I want to keep away from here, and those girls in the Snake Racing ads.

Like I said originally, there's a million sites out there you can get those pics from. If you're offended that you can't look at pics of girls on a 4WD website then you need to reassess your priorities. I'm going to re-close this thread now, prune it and sticky it.

Thank you for your understanding.
