Don't let mosquitos bite you!

For the stuff that's NOT 4WD related, here's where you can come on in and discuss it, but do play nice!

Don't let mosquitos bite you!

Unread post by Goldylux » October 21st, 2015, 12:39 pm

Well there's more seriousness to keeping the annoying little biters away
than just avoiding an itchy bite for a few days. We have all been told
to wear loose clothing and use insect repellent, but do we do it?

I never realised how important it was myself and thought it was a bit
weak to spray on repellent (in perth) to go outside. I lived up north for
a bit, but that (I thought) was a different story than in the suburbs in a city.

Without scaring everybody about mosquitos, just a reminder to everyone
to cover up and not get bitten. Especially if you live near a lake, swamp, open drain
any sort of stagnant muddy water. Make sure the kids are under a net or
have insect repellent on.

I may have gotten Ross River Virus from the things, and just putting it out there to everyone
to be aware of mozzies. If I get my tests back and they're positive i'll be spreading
this a bit further, there needs to be more awareness on what's around and I'm surprised there
hasn't been more news coverage. We have an open drain out the back and I should
have known better.

I had a look at some of the statistics and tests done on mosquito traps and the
figures seemed pretty alarming. ( for people located near a wetland.)

Not trying to scare anyone, just be mindful ;)

Ross river is not pleasant. Best you find an electric fence as soon as possible. I don't know how or why it works but, I can vouch for it first hand.

Yeah urinate on a electric fence will fix it - you'll still have Ross River, but you will be in so much pain, you won't care any more!

I've already got herniated disks in my back crushing the nerves to my legs,
other nervous system damage, scar tissue on my nerves from surgery, spinal
stenosis and a few other things, I think i'll leave the belt from the fence.

For a regular person that is healthy I think this think would give you a
good kick in the guts. It isn't pleasant. RRV I mean. I'm used to pain I guess
so its just another thing to deal with.

I think I should be getting some money from aerogard for this thread.

The fever, night sweats, constant sickness feeling and arthritic pain aren't really
the best things in the world.

I remember up in broome the tropical strength aerogard was a staple. Probably
the same in Queensland i'd imagine. Everywhere was stocked up with it.
You could probably buy it from maccas.

The other one was bushmans I think, that was sold a bit.

Hey Goldylux, ask your Dr about Valtrax 500mg. this is the current latest anti viral medication available thru conventional medicine.. Alternative medicine has some effective treatments too if you like to go natural.

If living in an area prone to mosquitoes, clean up the yard to get rid of things that hold water like old tyres to reduce the number of mozzies breeding.
