Killin Ants? What can I use that WORKS?!

For the stuff that's NOT 4WD related, here's where you can come on in and discuss it, but do play nice!

I used a magnifying glass to good effect as a kid. They stink a bit as they fizzle and pop but that way you knew you had success. You might need a steady hand and a little patients to get em all.

Ants will keep your benches & pantry far cleaner than you , me , or anyone using any substance or wipes.

Let them live.

So far the ants are winning!
I have baited every nest I could find with the worlds most expensive & difficult to find ant poison!.
I have "re sealed" the gap behind the sink where they were coming in.
Annnnnd - Today they were back in force!

I am all for live and let live... heck I like spiders even - the big hairy huntsmen spiders all lived at my place, and I have no issue with native flora fauna etc (Was even a Wildlife Officer, once in a previous life).

But you don't know - SWMTSWTP (She Who Mistakenly Thinks She Wears The Pants).

When she says:-
Either the ants go, or I do
- I seriously stopped and thought about it for all of about 10 seconds... The idea of sex with a zillion little brown ants?

So She wins, the ants lose.... BUT someone forgot to tell the ants - coz so far the little blighters never got the memo!. :irked:

I hear carbon dioxide works...pour a couple of bottles of soda water or sodastream water into the ant nest will fill the hive with CO2as it is heavier than air and suffocate the colony and queen... ;)
Cheers

If the CO2 gas from the extinguisher doesn't kill them, the freezing effect certainly will  .

this may not be suitable for you .
a friend has had inchman nests around her house , these buggers really bite !!!!!!
i pour a quantity of diesel or kero down the nest , .5 to 1 litre
leave it for a few minutes , then a bit of petrol , , use a long burning match and flick it to the nest from a safe distance .
so far 100% success with 6 or 8 nests

If you have kids around use this safe method. Use a small squirt bottle, 3/4 full of water and 1/4 with vinegar and a small dash of dish washing liquid. It does work.

The ants are still winning!
Sealing the back of the sink stopped them coming thru there so now they are coming out inside the sink cabinet!
Gonna spread more bait tomorrow!. :irked:

You have to give them credit for perseverants.

See what i did there?

Mum always used to pour hot water on them, whether it killed them
or just aggrevated them i dont know.

If you can get your hands on some caustic i dont think they would like that much.
The other one that comes to mind is lime.

If you are having troubles finding exactly where they are coming in, sprinkle some cloves along their track. They will change their track to avoid the cloves, letting you see or work out where their source or point of entry is. It might take a few goes, but a bit of that perseverants (bloody poor grammar really, not as eloquant as it could be :gurn: ) will help. Once you've found their entry point, stuff a few cloves into it & then seal it & everything around!! :irked:

Of course, that will only work if they've got a hole or some other small way past your building's protection - if they are just marching in thru the doors or windows, you are going to be fighting them for a while!! And in that case, maybe it's time to call the Flick man, he's your answer! Remember one Flick.... :sillywink:
