Killin Ants? What can I use that WORKS?!

For the stuff that's NOT 4WD related, here's where you can come on in and discuss it, but do play nice!

Will probably have to get serious about these ants soon...
They are funny coz they sod off for a day or 2 and you think you have em beat - then blow me down, they come back again outta the blue!.
Maybe I will keep putting the bait around but pour boiling water on it to wash it down into the nests.
These things are so small that - unless there's a lot of them in a line you almost can't see them.
The granules of the bait to me, seem to be 'too coarse' for them to carry down into the nest, the granules are bigger than the opening of the nest and way too big for these little fellas to move I reckon.
I think they are sugar ants or Pharaoh ants - pale brown lil suckers!.
They really are small.. smallest ants I've ever seen!
I'd welcome some bigger ants on the block, to beat them up.
You wouldn't think the smallest ones, would be the most troublesome to eradicate!.
I think they are just testing my perimeter defenses for an out and out attack most likely.
Could turn into a war of attrition at this rate. :(

Just slow down a tick... It crossed my mind that when I was kid (back in the early carboniferous period) that there were campaigns to track down argentine ants, with a reward of $10 (an awful lot of money for a kid in those days.. anyone remember Barry Crocker as "Trapper Tom"?).

Ok, what I am getting at is that I think you will need to positively identify the species. If they are argentine ants, then you may be in trouble. Have a read of https://www.agric.wa.gov.au/pest-insect ... page=0%2C1 . From there, you will see what a pest they are.

Now this is just a thought... I've read where someone suggested pouring petrol down the holes and someone else suggested gassing of some sort.. So.. why not combine the two ideas?? get a bottle of propane, a long hose, and inject propane down the holes to the nest?? Make up a long length of det cord and your worries should be over.. Of course, this would only apply if it's a big open area and you have no neighbors with a heart condition.. A length of sisal rope soaked in solution of naphthalene flakes and petrol will make a good det cord.. Or maybe Peter A can think of something better for a fuse?? ... Just a thought...

Great idea BUT, I am in an urban area - 300 yards from the local plod shop.
All this talk of blowing them up...

So I am feeling a bit down... suicidal in fact - & I ring the 1800 help line - only to find its been outsourced to Mumbai India! :irked:
I start telling them how bad I am feeling, and they get all excited and start asking me "Can I drive a truck, and do i know anything about explosives?" :p

Hmmmmm, maybe forget about my idea of propane if their under the house... But, then again, you could blame your Bar B Q bottle if Mr Plod gets involved....

Torch the ants/house,
claim insurance,
build elsewhere.

Brisbane Puff for the win...lol

Yes Gary_M... I am with you but for us suburban slave dwellers a less noticable CO2 will displace the air and make ant queenie go sleepy time for ever. Soda water is the go as it has no additives.
Cheers
Chris.
