Questions that need answers!

For the stuff that's NOT 4WD related, here's where you can come on in and discuss it, but do play nice!

The ads you see are also dependant on who is throwing the advertising dollars around. You spent a lot of time looking at coopers, coopers are giving the add company assessing your cookies dollars, you keep seeing those ads.

Canberra number plates I have noticed over the years that all Canberra number plates start with the letter Y so my question is why Y and not a mix of other letters like the rest of us

Found this on the net Dave.

"After more than 41 years of issuing numeral only number-plates the ACT introduced an alpha-numeric plate for passenger cars. In 1954 the ACT had been allocated the series YAA-000 to YZZ-999 for this purpose by the Australian Transport Advisory Council. It took until the 20th of September 1968 for the "Y" plates to come into existence. These were the first plates in Australia to use the new reflective sheeting for the background on a permanent basis."

Still doesn't explain why just the letter "Y" though.

Why cant i put tyres or empty gas cyclinders in the skip bin?

People would think i collect fire extinguishers and car wheels by the
amount i have lying around.

Tyres are expensive to dispose of as there are specific controls and conditions which attract extra disposal charges on the other end. There are also stiff penalties for disposing of tyres in an unapproved way (tyre dump fires are pretty much impossible to extinguish).

Sanity finally prevailed with smoke detectors and you can now put them out in the general rubbish. While they do contain small amounts of radioactive material, the quantity is trivial compared to background radiation unless you happen to have a large number in one lump.

One of our skip companies also specifies "no bullets".

Letter ranges are/were somewhat allocated on a regional basis, Queanbeyan and Yass had distinct ranges. Presumably more important in days gone by to allow uniquely numbered plates to be distributed without accidentally doubling up. ACT is very small so the "Y" space is all that is needed.
