Those were real men! Flying over Nazi Germany with no guns and no escort?! For fox sake...the man has balls the size of rockmelons...

And if the sound of that Spitfire flying overhead with it's 27ltr Merlin V12 howling doesn't send a chill up your spine, you're dead.

I never knew the US Army Airforce had Spitfires and never new that could make Berlin, let alone stay over there for 30 mins (albeit in a modified aircraft).

Great stuff - thanks for sharing

I say this with the greatest respect to our current airmen, but these days its like a video game compared to those old blokes and their flying machines.......they were tough old buggers...I take my hat of to every one of them

That was a great little vid.
the spitfire engine was so much ahead of its time, check out this pic, It could be a cutaway of a late model japanese 4 valve SOHC engine from the 90's or later, but it is the merlin engine

Modern air warfare is just different. Probably less arduous and tenacious in that less shots get fired, but when you do get hit, it's an instant game over as the speeds and energies involved are so much higher (so it's all about cool nerves and precision). Just watched that segment again.

Thoroughly enjoyed this as my grandfather flew in the RAF in WWII.
