BBQ Plate struggles - why do the legs keep folding?

Unread post by SkipPaj » October 12th, 2015, 8:50 pm

I recently bought a BBQ plate and tried it out on the beach.
I had a struggle in keeping the foldable legs straightened out when moving it around. They kept on folding in on me.
Am i using it incorrectly or does that come with the plate and its use

Any suggestions are welcome

Hi mate.
It's pretty much a given and just getting used to it. You could tinker with it to make the legs stay open and not fold as you move it around, wouldn't be hard to do.

Hi
I was thinking of adding some if those locking hinges to every corner. The blade types you get on camping tables. They kind of lock in . Just worried a bit on how to attach the one end to the round bar of the leg which us quite narrow.
Cheers

Yeh should do the trick. You'll come up with something. But keep it simple.
I have the same style of plate but don't seem to have an issue with it.
Just fyi. I've made a stainless steel mesh basket ( doesn't have to be SS) that hangs directly underneath the whole plate to which I put heat beads in. Works a bloody treat! :)

thanks Dree Mon.
Came to me one night just sitin by the camp fire, as a lot of my tinkering ideas do lol.
Seriously does work really well though. Very even heat across the whole plate. I also use the flavoured beads from time to time too. I have three different stages to the wire hooks the mesh hangs from so as to be able to control the heat to a point. All easily adjusted using cooking tongs. :) cheers.
