Know of any Jaffle Irons with interlocking?

Unread post by bigred15 » March 20th, 2014, 1:31 am

Hi all,

Does anyone know of a jaffle iron that has some form of interlocking? All the ones I can find don't seem to have anything of the sort, or are just really poorly made.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers!

you gotta love and interlocking jaffel iron.

The ones I remember from my youth were all locking but the two I have now arnt, makes you think why they removed that vital little clip.
'98-'06 - FJ-45 Ute fell over one day and didnt survive
'06-now - HJ-47 Troopy, restored and now daily driver.
'13-now - HJ-47 Ute, Farm fresh rust bucket, needs a restoration. viewtopic.php?f=22&t=152811

now - Off Road Box/Camper Trailer. viewtopic.php?f=134&t=153968&p=1792444#p1792444

Dont listen to me, Ive got an opinion on everything!

Ok. If you meant the little clip on the handle to keep it closed shut while cooking, I know what they are. Interlocking to me meant you could lock two or more irons together for some unknown reason I'd never heard of…. lol. Anyway, I'v never seen any without the wire clips. I'd be steering clear of them. My mate bought one last summer from BCF and it had the clip. At least I'm pretty sure it did. I'v had mine for near 20 years now so haven't been in the market. Look out at Flea markets or garage sails for the good old ones. :D

Could you get something like a picture hook and bend it up to suit?
That's basically all ours is small piece of flat looped around one handle with a hook to grab the other.
Always bugs me cause it slides up and down the handle and hooks at just the wrong time.. But is handy when you start cooking..

my one [round which was my great grans] has clip lock handle
some of the best tucker ever eaten was made in that iron
part of the standard kit in my 4x4ute
If it is called common sense
then why is it so uncommon

Probably why they have the long leverage handle, as well as keeping the handle out of the fire and heat. A good jaffle will expand inside the toaster and evenly toast nice and crisp. The firmer the lock mech, the better they perform.

What about a cheap 'D' clamp? might work ok with it too? Not too tight, just slightly firm tight. Shouldn't need to if there is enough filling though. I wonder if they take things off the market for either production cost or safety, dunno?

I'm keen to check out Jaffle Irons the next time Im in a camping shop. I just can't see why they don't put locking clips on the handles. I spoke to my mate and he said his had them. Very strange. :boggle: Very easy fix though.

I'm assuming there is reference to latching clips on the toasting vessel itself? Not the handle. It must have been a particular brand at some stage. I'd never seen ones like that in any camping store though.
