My 79 series ute.

Unread post by Joe79 » December 22nd, 2013, 11:59 am

Thought it was time to post up about my ute.

It's a 2006 HDJ79 Landcruiser.
when I bought the ute, it was a one owner vehicle and had never been offroad a day in its life

Accessories fitted when I bought the ute.

Toyota genuine winch bar.
Pirahna DBS 180 dual battery system.
Extra power outlets in the cab and the tray.
Prodigy electric brake controller.
Anderson plug at the towbar.

The things I've had done.

Had the dual battery system rewired. (The previous owner installed this himself and the wiring went half way around the car).
Had the extra power outlets replaced with Merit plugs.
Replaced the factory snorkel with a Safari unit.
Outback roof console and Icom uhf.
Turbo timer.
LED reverse light.
Silverstone MT 117 ex tyres on the factory alloys.
Sheep skin seatcovers.
Lightforce 170 driving lights.
Tinted windows.
Worklights for the tray.
A second power outlet on the tray.
2" EFS lift.
Avenger 12'000lb winch.
Silverstone MT 117 Sports tyres (33x 11.5 R16)on black steelies.
F & R E-Lockers.
Tonneau cover.

Future mods.

Scrub bars and sliders.
Recaros to replace the factory bucket seats.
Replace the tray with something lighter.

Looks good, I can see a few mods there that mine needs

Can you tell me which model safari snorkel you used? And do you know if it sticks up any higher than the factory one?
I am a bit short on clearance atm and that is one of the things putting me off getting rid of the factory one..

Cheers

Thanks mate, yeah there is a few mods there. lol. As for the snorkel, yes it does sit a bit higher than the factory unit. The biggest difference between the two is that the Safari unit is a fair bit bigger in diameter than the factory unit. Mine is 2 meters to the top of the snorkel, that's with a 2" lift and on 31's. Hope this helps.

Nice looking ute there, how did you go with deciding on the 2" Efs kit? I am currently hunting through all the options (toughdog, OME, TJM, Ridepro) for my 79series and leaning towards EFS but can get a decent price, seems one place is overchargin a bit I think! ($2800 fitted) Also did you get castor correction bushes installed?

Cheers

Thanks VDJ Ed, yeah the ute is pretty much at the point where I'm happy with it. Does everything that I need it to do. But there is always something on the wish list though.

As for the V8, I was concerned with the rumoured problems with the earlier V8's, and I can't justify, or afford the price of a new one.

Thanks mate. I chose the EFS suspension because that is what my mechanic recommended, and they seem to have a good reputation. And those that I spoke to with this kit fitted were happy with the choice. $2800 does seem a bit steep, I paid $2000 installed. And that was with the heavy duty rear springs to handle the weight the ute is allowed to carry.
I didn't get the castor correction bushes fitted as I was told it wasn't needed for my ute.

No worries mate. In the process of changing mechanic to a workshop in Wantirna. Does a good job at a reasonable price, and not to far from where I am.

yea i know what you mean, i seen you fitted twin E-lockers. Ive been looking into them and really liking them, possible review? your thoughts? next time you get to use them? :) one member said their awsome and loved them.

ive got an 07 model v8 (one of the first) with 150XXX on it and in the time ive owned it never had any problem, not even the "oil consumption" problem...but thats just me hahaha
