Yup, tried bending some heavy (about 1.8mm) exhaust pipe, same problem, the issue is that the bender doesn't draw the tube around the mandrel, it's more of a bend around the mandrel.

You could try packing with sand, but will be a pain in the arse, I just buy mandrels these days and weld them up :D

Thanks mate, it's taken a long time and a lot of work to get this far.

Ok so, update time
Now, I might be going at this a bit backwards, but I've been drawing up prototypes, cooking up ideas, changing my mind and generally procrastinating about doing anything on the Hilux for some time.

Add to that a nightmare 2 years, new job, almost going bankrupt, trips to hospital etc I've decided to motivte myself

So tonight I picked up some new boots. seeing these every day I hope will motivate me and make me pull my finger out.

Here they are in comparison to the 35's on the cruiser

Not a lot will happen for the next month or so until I get some other stuff out of the road but the plan is pretty much set in concrete now. I even have a Tow rig prettymuch sorted.
I'll be building it up according to CCDA "Buggy" specs
I'll keep the current V8 5 speed for now.
Plan on setting the engine back 6-8 inches.
Longarm triangulated 4 link rear,
Hybrid cruiser rear axle.
4 link front again with a hybrid axle.
Air operated sway bar disconnects front and rear
Triples and coilover shocks on all 4 corners,
Thinking 16" on rear, 14 " on the front
Hoping for about 14" of travel on the front and closer to 24" on the rear.

Black Bull custom barwork, internal CCDA cage, Black Bull Custom tank.
12/24v system with my usual overkill :woohoo:

Will have to wait for a bit, but hopefully I can keep full fenders on it, looking to use a pre-runner style front and most likely will make rear fenders too so I can run in rally events as well.

Also plan a full custom dash with built in GPS and terratrip.

Question now is, do I try and keep it "Registered"
Wish me luck

you know whats funny?
i saw the start of the build and i thought geez this will be a rough old build with a busted ass old hilux.

how very very wrong I am, dont want to blow too much air up your ass but DAMN SON YOU GOT SOME SKILLS!

bloody brilliant job mate, im at the stage of wiring at the moment and i like the neatness of your idea i think ill steal it haha

thats a cool bench i think ill steal that too!

and if i knew where you lived id probably steal the hilux as well!! ha just kidding as if i think after all that work you would slip into depression :D

keep it up!!!

gotta say though one thing im sure of is these incredibly long and complicated builds there is always a time when the person loses motivation and faith, but i really hope you finish this. should most definately be on 4wd action some day.

one last thing speaking of that with all this work what have you got planned for the finished look of the car in and out?

To be totally honest, I'm still tossing up a few different styles

Being an SR5 cab it's a shame to strip the interior out, but then, I'e got a mate hassling me to buy it. :p
Either way, it'll have my signature canted double roll bar Hoop and it'll be finished in my signature Black/Charcoal & Orange paint

Cheers Bud

I got home from Tuff Truck to day and am really motivated to get something done on this. A few of us have been speaking and are hoping to get an Ultra 4 based class up and running here in Aus (think King of the Hammers)
So I think I'll keep this as a bit of a go fast rig for now. Last week I picked up the new Diesel V8 for the tow rig, and have scored a new A440 for the cruiser.
First job will be to get the tow rig running and re-registered , then the cruiser going again before Cliffhanger and the Opposite lock Challenge in June/July. then I'll hook into the Hilux with the hopes of having it ready for the first round of Off Road racing in February next year and the Silver city 500.

They are, although only for a bit, The 80 isn't built to be a toy, it's too big and too heavy.
