It took about 6-8 hours being the first I'd done, I got a rebuild manual off eBay for $15.

You'll need a puller to get the pump out, I used a 2-jaw and a plate with a 34mm wide slot cut in it to fit the shaft behind the splines.

The manual is pretty detailed and explains everything you need to do.

If you plan to fit a shift kit (mines stage 2) then its easiest at this stage with the box apart.

Hey squiggs

Noticed you wrote that it had 2" west coast suspensions springs under it, just wondering what they cost?

I've seen the ads on TV for them but don't know if they are worth getting

Cheers

The springs were about $700 from memory, the full kit was around $1200

Cheers for that, sounds pretty reasonable. Any problems with sag or anything?

Turns out it was a blocked oil pickup, just dropped the sump off, didn't have to remove exhaust/engine mounts or anything :) good oil pressure now, got aftermarket oil pressure, water temp and tacho in now..

Ditched the shitty Surf/4Runner seats the previous owner had installed and fitted a set of VZ commodore seats. Feels like I'm sitting in a Limo now haha..

Ditched the 240XGT's and fitted a 20" 120W double row LED Lightbar.

Nice job, I don't see the fan shroud? I'd be very surprised if you don't have cooling issues in summer. Keep a spare fuel filter in the glovebox if there was any signs of rust in the tank. You will hear the pump get louder when it needs it.

The th700 in standard form only has 6 frictions in the 3-4 clutch pack and not a great deal of fluid pressure clamping the stack. If you do any significant engine modifications you might find the traction with 10.5 muddies will put the pressure onto that 3-4 stack and you will smoke it. Speaking from experience here with a fresh th700 with stock rebuild. It lasted 3 or 4 runs down the dragstrip and clogged the trans filter with friction material.

I ended up having to do some major mods to the 700 myself to get it to last. upgrading to 9 frictions in the 3-4 stack and having the tranny pump, precision machined and heavily modified to increase the trans pressure to max specs with the sonnax .570 boost valves (largest available} to get that 3-4 stack clamped up tight.

Run a trans cooler and make sure the 700 locks up. Theres plenty of room under the tray to fit another industrial engine radiator and electric fan when you need it.

nice job mate.

ps. get 2 of those fire extinguishers, or a larger one. not that you will need it, Those little ones will barely extinguish an engine fire. get 2!
