Squiggs LN106 Lux

Unread post by Squiggs351 » January 25th, 2013, 11:14 am

This is my '89 LN106 Hilux.

2.8 Diesel and 5 speed manual.

It was pretty bunky when I got it, flaky paint, dents , etc...

I soon ditched the mangled front bumper and custom built a tube bar for it, fitted a 2" body lift, 2" lifted WCS springs, Ironman Nitro Shocks and 33x12.5 Maxxis Bighorn Tyres.

Image

Next on the list was a re-spray in high opacity white with a few coats of clear. While I was at it I thought I'd do a bit of airbrushing too.

Image

Fitted up some Lightforce 240 XGT spotties, rock lights and LED indicators. And started on a custom Aluminium canopy.

Image

In November the trusty old 2.8 spat a bigend after 495,000KM so I have been researching and pricing parts and to buy another 2.8 or rebuild one is just going to be far to expensive (around 6-8 grand ) so I've made the decision to drop in an EFI 5 litre and TH700.

YEEEEEEH another Holden V8... :D

Are you gonna fit the Mark's output shaft yourself? ... I wasn't paying the transmission place $880 to do it so i bought a TH350 repair manual off VPW for $35 & stripped it, swapped out the shaft & put it all back together again... its been working for a good 6mnths real time driving & hasn't skipped a beat ;)

If your interested in what it takes, its in the begining of my Toyholdens V8 Surf buildup in the Members Buildups & Projects section...
You wont regret the V8 conversion it's the best Mod that i'v done on my Surf upto this date... & probably the best it'l ever get

I'm subscribed to this build :thumb:

I just bought myself a repair manual too, shouldnt be too hard to strip and rebuild.

From what I read in most of the threads in here it should be a good thing.

Sounds like yours goes really well.

Yeh Squiggs,
It's not that hard to do, if i had to do it again i'd say i'd get the job done in less than 4hrs ;)
As far as i'm aware the TH700 isn't much different in its internals to the TH350, Just have a clean work area & you should have no probs :thumb: :thumb:

I had a few teathing issues but all sorted now, i learn't to make sure the Dissy clamp hold down bolt needs to be done up tight & use locktight + lock washers on the ENG mount/plate bolts

So now that its running in tune again its a powerhouse, I'm a happy chappy thats 4sure :D

Getting there Squiggs,
I seen you asked a question on Psyolents thread about, will you need to massage anything else besides the A/C square hump, I did massage a little around the steering shaft grommet aswell as the A/C hump just for a little extra clearance & i massaged around the dissy abit for easier access & more clearance too... I had the motor in & out a good 6 times checking the clearances & massaging before i was happy with it ;)
Hope this helps :thumb:

Got my letter of approval back from the transport department today :)

It's been aprooved to fit the EFI 5 Litre and TH700 auto, also approved for the lift.

Got knocked back on the 33's so I'll just throw the stockies on to get it inspected.

Picked up the caprice last week, so I'll be pulling the motor and box out this week and hopefully have the motor in soon. Have to strip the TH700 and fit the modified output shaft then i can fit that too :)

More Progress... excuse the SH*T pics, I only had my phone today.

Stripped the 4L60E to swap output shafts over.

New vs Old, new shaft is about 5 inches shorter to suit the transfer case.

Box back together with new output shaft, (have to completely disassemble the internals to swap shafts)

The HiLux adaptor shaft with a new speed sensor ring pressed on

The finished product, the godzilla of gearboxes... 1180mm front to back. Must way about 120kg....

Just needs a new filter and put the pan back on then its in the ute....
