Well both chassis mounts are now done. I have done a final measurement on the trailing arm lengths and I need 730mm uppers and 980mm lowers.

Thanks mate. Its sitting idle for the next few weeks while I'm at work. At least I'll be keen to get back into working on it when I get home. :D

Check out alibaba.com its a web site to source manufacturers. You'll find pretty much everything you want on there.

I also got my plasma cutter today can't wait to use it. Don't think I'll have time before heading back to work though. :(

Cheers mate. Hopefully it'll turn out OK. Just need to get the time to do the work on it. I should have pretty much everything I need to get the fab work done on it in the next month or so. Then it'll be long days in the shed getting it done and back together and out on the tracks. :waycool:

Having fun playing with my new plasma cutter. I burnt out a couple of nozzles pretty quickly but got the basic hang of it. Just need to learn how fast to move the nozzle. Its going to make life so much easier for cutting the brackets and getting rid of mounts etc that I don't need.

Well I thought I'd talk about where my budget is at so far just to keep people up to date with the cost of something like this.

My initial budget was a little over $45000 so lets see where we're at so far.
MAV shorty $3000 On budget
GU cab $1500 Under budget saved $400
GU front diff Braced $1500 Under budget saved $300 This included a rear diff too
Suspension $3000 Still to buy but budgeting $5000 now
Chassis extension $1500 Extending the links instead. Saved $1400
Hydraulic winch $5000 Still to come
High mount comp spec $5000 Going with low mount now. Save $1500
Rear winch $500 Don't think I'll have room
Bar work $5000 Still to come
Seats and harnesses $2000 Still to come. Will save $1000
Radio and GPS $2000 Magellan FX324 color x 2. Saved $800
Paint $1000 Still to come
Wheels and tyres $3500 Just bought some saved $1000
Diff lockers $1000 Still to come will cost $2000
Lights (LED Bars/HID) $1500 Still to come but same budget
Engine swap $5000 Still to come but saving $2800
Kevlar/Carbon panels $3500 Still to come
Accessories $1500

I've sold a few things like the body, diff, engine etc which gave back $2000

So the original budget was $47000 and the new budget with savings is $38300 so that has me currently $8700 under the initial budget so not looking too bad at the moment.

Cheers

Well I got bored today because I can't get any gas or wire for the welder until I get home in a few weeks from work. So I though I'd throw the cab back on the chassis to see the difference with the extended wheel base. Here is the difference. First is before the stretch and second is after. Should be pretty good.

I checked out the engine measurments which are 700mm long and 500mm wide. The chassis is 630mm inside the rails and the engine bay is 920mm from the firewall to the radiator support panel so no problems with fitting it. I might even trim back the firewall so I can sit the engine further back. It would take much and I'm not going to have A/C or heater in the cab so plenty of room behind the fire wall.

I'm also toying with the idea of mounting the winches behind the rear diff instead of in front of it. There just isn't any room because of the trailing arm mounts on the chassis are under the cab because of the short chassis. So I'm thinking of mounting the fuel tank forward of the diff and the winches behind the diff under the spare wheel which means I would have better access to the winches if I need it.

This pic is about as low as I'd like the suspension to droop. It is 220mm between spring bases. Even if I go with coilovers I don't want it to drop any lower than that. Its 40mm below the chassis rail. You can see where I'm thinking about putting the fuel tank which would give me room below the tank to run winch cable. Just need to get the suspension in so I can figure out if the cable will foul anything on the way through.
