Just reading your story mate how are those temps going?
Have you got yourself a good Pyro & has it got the massive radiator only reason i ask is that alot of us with these engines seem to have no problems at all including mine with 50 K on it now.

Infact i have never been able to over heat mine of get the egt above 400 or so.

Hi mate, it's currently got the 4.5 petrol radiator. Haven't had any probs since I sorted gaps out between shroud and radiator. If I have any more issues the big one will go straight in. No pyro yet either, I'm not overly concerned as the truck is driven about once a month and is only towing a ct. It is on the list with coolant level monitor and fuel water alarm setup. Is yours na, turbo or sc? And got any pics?

Mines a turbo i put on a big Holset Turbo so its doesnt spool up untill over 2000rpm that way i can drive without out it & when off roading i get it bouncing on & off turbo..
Has an intercooler about twice the size of a ZD30 but same shape to make use of the bonet scoop with this setup never been hot or had high egt's even when pushing it hard.

Well if the 4.5 rad works ok leave well enough alone i would say and with the gaps make sure there is a good gap between the fan & radiator because if or when the viscous wears out it falls forward a bit & can put a whole in your radiator..

I have a small build thread on Patrol4x4 its not really up to date i dont put much on there..

18.5L/100k. Could do better but unfortunately I can't quite drive it that boringly. Looking into reducing diff ratios but not sure if the economics of the job cost are viable. 1200Nm of torque is pretty awesome and the whistle of the supercharger is lovely too. Note from exhaust is really nice but yes, it sounds phat when right foot pressure is applied:) cheers rousey

Mate i know a few people that have dropped to 3:7's and even 3:5' diffs without any real issues in performance.
With that SC Tq you could easily drop down.

Hi Towie. A local diff mob on the sunny coast told me that the 3.5 gear sets are not a very good quality (Chinese) but the 3.9 are good to go. Didn't know about 3.7. Got any info on who is best to contact regarding different gear sets for the troll? Have a good day mate

3.5's should be standard 4.8 auto ones, definitely not chinese, maybe you could do a swap with someone with a 4.8 that wants your ratios?

Thanks for info Dave, would be pretty stoked to get some genuine 3.5's in there. Let the search begin....

I am running 3:9's and yeh the 3:5's should come out of a 4.8 petty.
3:7's are being used but dont know where to get them start with Nissan they will know what model they come from or Brunswick Diesel im sure will know as they have used them to i think.

I know i could easily drop to 3:7 and probably will at some stage.

I am looking at sending my missus on one of the dirty girl 4x4 weekends to Moreton. Be good for her to have more confidence driving the truck off road, should put the jeep crowd back in their boxes :)
Definitely going to do the 3.5 Towie, may be 12 months away but it's only driven once a month so fuel usage is not so much a problem YET. My missus and I have set a date of Jun 2018 to do OTT with the kids, youngest will be 5.5 so everyone should enjoy it. Gives me some time to ponder and complete all the little things (like diff ratios, roof consoles, on board shower etc) stoked to be starting to plan it though as it was always a 'one day' thing
