Unread post by SparkieKev » December 10th, 2012, 10:27 pm

If anyone's interested here goes. Picked up pretty stock 2003 GU wagon from vic caryard. 390000 on 3l turbo grenade. Interior was trashed body a little rippled smelt like crap inside. Was wanting 12500 paid 11500. Happy days in garbage tip truck :)

Stripped interior. Got a shopping bag of chewy, hair clips, coins, lollie wrappers, various receipts, cheap jewellery, melted chocolate, nuts, mints just heaps of stuff that should have been put in the bin, not the trims. Installed new heat proofing, sound proofing and carpet.

Next added rear drawers (outback), cargo barrier, drop down fridge slide, fridge and electronic rust protection - have been told its crap but I understand the theory ( it's CouplerTec ) but got body spray treatment done also.

Added dual tyre swing rear bar, side steps and brush bars. Also added some more frontal illumination. Then the 31.5 rubber was swapped out to the new Cooper ST Max's 33" x 9 (3 on camp trailer for heaps of spares). Changing tyres on the side of the road is overrated.

Started going away was pretty stoked with turn out so far. May 2012 turbo bled out all engine oil through exhaust. I finally lost the pin nearly 400000 (think it had some motor work previously as I haven't heard of to many 3l turbos with this many k's). But it was all part of the plan........

Out with the old broken donk. In with the new 6.5 Chev diesel plus a blower to top it off. Was going to convert to auto but decided not too. Dad (lent me his 4 post hoist, had to convince him to roll off his 6.2 Landy 110) our mate Guy (the brains and formerly of Linquip chev conversions) and myself got stuck into our original concept about 12 months earlier than we expected.
Since added compressor for f/r lockers with small custom tank and outlet. Led's in rear pillars, fridge socket + accessory socket all from second power supply hidden beside drawers

Waiting on exhaust and aircon pipe mod. Also added new stainless air box with 3.5 inch intake. It was an ass to fit but should give a lot of air for the blower. All being well and good will be driving it in 2 weeks. There were some pretty major issues along the way and I'm happy to share them but not on this forum as it may upset some parts makers. Lockers are in shed and will be installed after Christmas. All wiring, switches and lines are run already though. I would love to have added more pics but most photos were over 1 meg and system wouldn't allow upload. Any advice on this computer whizz bang gizmo to allow it if you would like to see some more pics would be appreciated. Will post dyno results once I have that done too

Put in the 4.5 petrol radiator and had a custom shroud built. It hasn't been driven yet. Dad is organising exhaust and aircon as I'm away working. Need it ready for 21 Dec. it's really close. I will give full rundown after my rainbow beach week as that will show any heating issues. Guy is confident that the setup will pull heaps of air. We changed out t/stats for cooler ones too. Will put up some pics when it is totally done and the dyno results. Thanks for your interest gents I'm really proud of the work WE have done on it.
