Fraser Nov 2014

Unread post by Snapcatcher » November 9th, 2014, 9:35 pm

Spent the first week of November at Fraser, stayed at Happy Valley. Had one day with a few showers but otherwise had good weather. Was nice and quiet over there compared to previous trips, and hardly ever had to pull over for other vehicles on inland tracks. Went up to the sandy cape one day and only saw 4 other vehicles in the few hours we were there. On the way back there was a bloke in a troopy broken down on the Ngkala bypass. Other people moved him off the track so they could pass, but left him in a ***** of a spot. He had a wire short out from the battery and I had some wire in the kit and we got him running again. Then took an effort to snatch him out of the spot he was in but finally got him and his family back on their way to the cape to camp.

Crossed Eli Creek one morning right on high tide. I dont have a snorkel so tarped up the intake side, which was good as had water over the bonnet. Got rewarded then by having the creek to ourselves for an hour.

Looks like a great time mate. When you crossed the creek, was it salt water or fresh water when it was over your bonnet.

Mostly fresh, I crossed as far up the creek as possible. It was prob about a 10 metre crossing mostly about thigh deep, but one dipped into one hole where water went over front briefly. No pics unfortunately.

Top stuff mate, we are hoping to go there in a year or so. What rust protection did you do before you hit the beach ?

My rust protection involved about 6 hours cleaning today.

Fraser is my favorite place. I look forward to going there every year.

I look at photos every week when I am here in Kabul.

So im not usually a breakfast beer kinda guy, but couldnt resist on this day. It was the second last morning of what had been a great holiday. Brilliant weather, Eli Creek to ourselves, and the missus cooking bacon and egg sangas. Life doesnt get any better than that.
