Latest aerial video from last camping trip - MUST SEE!

Unread post by jamesgid » January 16th, 2014, 2:45 pm

Here is the awesome footage I got on our last trip. The footage was taken while camped at Denison Point which is on Eucumbene Dam. We did a little bit of a long trek so I won't go into detail here. I just wanted to show off the footage. It is just some footage of our campsite, no actual 4WDriving footage. My filming quadcopter has been built for filming action work though, just working up the skills to make it happen.

Great footage. I thought about doing something similar. What sort of control range to you get out of these things. In your footage you seem a bit hesitant to do any distance. I know the 4WD Action guys have got themselves a good one but I'm curious as to range and battery duration.

That is really well put together.

I was up at Pole Blue in Barrington Tops a few months back and a guy had one he was playing around with. He was getting about 10-15 minutes out of it from memory.

He was braver than me though. It was pitch black and we were next to a swamp. control failure would have seen a tree or possibly the creek.

MUST SEE - because everyone who has seen the footage reckons it's an amazing perspective on this amazing landscape we get to enjoy. I'm not making you watch it, and I'm not going to take the bait on your trolling.

Range, this rig I get about 2km out of but can do 3-5km if I upgrade the antennas. My FPV goggles were not working which is why I was hesitant to fly to far away. Essentially I had to keep it in sight, and with so many trees around it was hard to go to far. With the goggles, I can fly through trees, down into the valley, around items, behind items, follow vehicles etc - it gives much more freedom. But with the googles not working and having limited range because of equipment problems I still think it came out alright. I have a plane that goes to about 5km. All my gear is custom built, so it can get a bit expensive and a little frustrating at times. But then when you get footage like this it makes it all worth while :)

Battery - I run a 5000mah battery on this rig and get about 8 minutes. This is my bigger rig for carrying heavy gear. It has been rigged to drop parachute men, toys etc when camping with the nieces and nephews - it can carry quite a bit. I have a lighter tri-copter which I will be using for most future projects. It is lighter and is built to carry just one gopro - nothing bigger. Aiming for 15 minutes with the new tri-copter rig i'm building at the moment (it will be my 4th tri-copter, also have 3 quads and 1 hexa.... and a bunch load of planes).

Very cool footage. What sort of price range are you looking at to get something to carry a gopro?

I'm not trolling, but are they noisy?

Nah they are quiet.......electric motors don't make much noise, hence why people use them for surveillance
