Barrett 510 autotune antenna question

Unread post by A.J. » April 18th, 2013, 8:54 pm

Hey guys!

I have purchased a second hand Barrett 550 HF radio with 510 autotune antenna.

My antenna did not come with the actual whip for it.

I have tried to find a place that sells the stainless whips but have had no luck so far :(

I have noticed that any 477mhz or CB antenna whip will screw onto the base without issue.
The ones you can buy from Supercheap for around $30-$40.

Will any whip work or will the performance not be up to scratch without the "proper" whip?

As far as I can tell it's just a piece of steel, the actual tuning but is in the base anyway.

If I could just order the "roper" whip, that would be ideal.

Thanks for your help!

Success

I have just found and ordered a 2m stainless whip with spring base.

Took a while but it's sorted now ;)

Do you remember where you bought it by any chance. I am looking for the a HF stainless steel whip at the moment?
