Tube Notching Templates

Unread post by outback cruisa » November 22nd, 2010, 11:00 am

Found this great site for those who are wanting to make some barwork, but dont want to fork out for a tube notcher.

Basically you put in the sizes of your pipe and it does all the work for you by giving you a template that you print out and cut to shape and it simply wraps around the pipe for you to mark and then cut/grind off to give you a nice tube notch.

I call on saved files from this site on close angles where notcher is useless.

When I did my roof rack I used my drop saw with it set on 22.5 for 2in round tube and made 2 cuts for each end, was a little fiddly to get it even to come up square , just leave a little extra length on the pipe for adjusting,

I made it square with a centre support and 50mm mesh under it

I'll try to get a pic of it up

Hi all , something I also use is PVC and poly pipe ???? OK get some pvc and or poly pipe and drill them with a hole saw. If you join say a 25mm to 50mm then you would use a 50mm hole saw to cut the 25mm pipe. then you slide the pipe over the steel pipe you like to cut and mark around it. By doing it this way you can keep it in the tool box and make any size you like.. Give it a go

will be handy for TIG welding joins but for MIG i just cut a 45 on both sides with 1/3 of the diameter still square on the end. does a pretty good join.
