Mickey Thompson STZ - anyone had experience with them?

Unread post by Maddazz » February 4th, 2012, 1:38 pm

Hi Guys and Girls.
I have been searching the forum for some reviews on Mickey STZ's and come up empty.
Has anyone had experience with these tyres?
I was just quoted $380 for 265/70/16 but the price is not the issue.
From what i have read the wear rates seem to be pretty good on the Mickeys? yes/no?
Any feedback is welcomed.
Cheers
Dazz

You probably can't find any reviews as they are still a fairly new tyre but what i have heard they are probably the best all round tyre around at the moment good milage, great handling on road and can still handle a bit of off road stuff

I got 120 000kms out of the ATZ 5 ribs in a 265/75R16 and look like getting close to the same out of the Dick Cepek FC11's in a 285/70R16 so as far as I'm concerned Mickey make the best wearing tyres out of all the manufacturers.
Don't think you will be disappointed spending your money on anything they make.

I have just replaced the factory tyres on the 2008 Prado with MT STZ's 265 65 R17 size.

I got them fitted and balanced for $345 each. I wanted a tyre for weekend 4WDing with the family, but I didn't want major compromises on wet bitumen grip or road noise. As it turns out, I have already been in a situation where I had to slam on the brakes in the wet. I was really impressed!

And in terms of noise, well I travel at 35km at 100kph on Eastlink every day and you can barely tell the difference. They are so quiet it is amazing.

Can't comment on the wear - I have only be using them for 5000kms, but I would recommend that after you get tyres fitted and balanced, go take you car to a good suspension place that does high quality wheel alignments.

Cheers
Luke

Not a bad looking tyre, my DC FC-11's have worn extremely well as did my MTZ's. May need to look into these myself.

so i bit the bullet and got a set of 245 70 16 MT STZ for my bt 50 first impressions seam good not to noisey and the wife said they worked well in the paddock (would'nt take much to be better than the standard bridgies that were on it, stuffed after 30'000ks) they cost me $310 ea fitted. i will keep you posted on how they go.

Cheers

I just got a set fitted this arvo (Ryano at Fourbys at Moorooka)

275/70/17, just under 33inch on the old money.

Drives great on the sealed road. No hum or tram tracking.

Going down to Dargo pub early next month, I will let you know how the STZ go.

Just fitted new STZ's to my old Ranger. Upped the size from the stock 235/75/15 to 265/70/16, modified the stock rims to take the larger tyre size. I am really wrapped in the look, the handling in the wet and the lower noise. Just have to wait and see how the milage is, but from the research I did, they should be good in that aspect also. Paid $375 per tyre, but that was from Cairns, will most likely be cheaper in a major city.

Any update on how these have faired? They're close to top of m,y list when the factory Duelers need replacement.
