I have a newby-ish question, I have noticed my front tailshaft actually spins the front diff when in 2H without the front auto hubs engaging the front wheels (obviously).
I only noticed it because I changed clutch recently and had a few issues with transfer case leaking slightly.
Is that normal? the vehicle is a Mitsubishi triton mk 2.8 TDI
front tailshaft turning in 2H - is this right?

The mechanic isn't much good then if he can't picture what likely faults are possible.
Sound like it is in 4 High but you think it is in 2High. TC fault or linkage (likely) fault.
OR
The front diff is locked, Diff centre seized and One hub is also locked.
OR
Both front hubs are locked and not free.

Re: front tailshaft turning in 2H - is this right?
no its not in 4H because with vehicle jacked up in 2H the driveshaft turns but front wheels don't, then on 4H front wheels turn, same in 4L which engages perfectly.
If only I could find a mechanic I can trust that knows 4x4's in Newcastle/ port stephens area.
To make matters worst I'm heading off to the Vic alps in about a months time.

no, I don't think any tritons came with super select.
