Dmax SX Highride (2WD) conversion?

Unread post by jimmysurf75 » October 14th, 2014, 8:58 am

I know this question has been asked for many utes, but hoping it may be a little different????
I have a Dmax SX Highride 2WD and just wondering the costs (if possible to make 4WD)?

I only say this as this model runs exactly same gear as the 4WD SX version, including engine, gbox, suspension and height, only the obvious is different.
By the time I sell and lose on depreciation, and then buy the 4wd it might actually be possible for a lower cost to mod? Usually I wouldn't consider but considering the specs and ride height are exactly the same otherwise maybe its an option to consider since it would be an add-on in the factory.

Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

I and a coupla mates have 4wd versions (2010 to 2013)
Mate runs 2 x 2wd versions in his business.

Looking at what's involved. Mainly on the electronics side.Apart from the mechanical.
I'd say myself. second hand 4wd ready set up is the go.
Unless you proficient in electronics. (Mechanical is A.B.C.) Transsfer case. Shafts. torsion bars
plus complete front end. B4 you start with wiring in the electronics and resetting the computer.

Nowadays it's more than just a shaft, transfer case and front end.

I don't know your price range but I bought a 2011 dual 4wd with canopy 70k on clock showroom immaculate.
Ex Indropilly council Plumbing managers tpt. not even a towbar on it.
$46k retail I paid $23k for it. ANy colour you like as long as it's white.

Maybe if you could find a wreck with good running gear and comp it's be a go. Look on Internet/ebay.
then get a copy of Wksp Manual off net and see what's entailed.

They cheap as. and also probably second best on the market next to the Navara.
That VW has a rubber band under the bonnet so far.
If you near Brissy check on Q.Ford/Suzuki they carry a few regularly.

Need to get out more

You need to lie under a 4wd model and then a 2wd model to see ALL the front end differences besides the computer/wiring, transmission, etc, etc, etc.
That then may answer your own question.

Master Innovator on here has done one but unless you are prepared to learn and learn and not give up. NO.
