Probably best to get it checked i'd say. Black smoke means its running rich, which means more fuel. could be a blocked air cleaner (doubt it after 2500ks tho)

Black smoke out of a D40 is a good thing - it means it's still going.
You'll notice a lot of them doing it.

If it worries you, check with the dealer, but they all do it, and not just the Navaras. You probably notice more than anyone else does.

Its a Navara thing.

I take notice of alot of 4wds, and of all the newer ones i only ever see Navaras and 200 series Landcruisers blowing smoke.

White Navaras usually have a sooty tailgate. Not all, but even my missus and mates notice it now.

STX or D22? Only the D40's came out as an STX, the D22's are STR's

D40's do blow smoke, the seem to run quite rich when the turbo is not spooled up. Lots of people will tell you that it's not normal but they all do it. Same block by the way too, but very different motors in every other way.

When the Navara catch on fire they also produce black smoke, that i'd call normal.

So many posts over the web saying they all blow black smoke so it's normal. Apart from the sentiments falsely ejaculated in the quote, what other logic is there?

Seems to be there's a single comment re a reflash of the ecu fuel learn. And a turbo vac line off. Cant seem to find anything else. Difficult to get the punters to return to the Stealer when the hate is so massive.

So sad really I used to really like Nissan once, but some of the stuff they are turning out now makes a Great Wall look reliable. It would want to be an exceptional buy indeed to tempt me back into a modern Nissan. And yes I do know someone who has two D40's, clutches are supposed to last longer than 40,000 km, and so are a myriad number of other things that went wrong with both his and his wife's ones in that time, each one a separate battle with Nissan. (this guy is a truckie, looks after his vehicles, and does know how to drive)
Haven't owned a 2WD since 1982.

Every D22 I have driven blows black smoke at low revs. Especially just off idle
