We went to Bylong Creek 4x4 on the weekend and had a ball. The place is damn near perfect!

This weekend my mate Chris and I, well basically Chris, had more mundane things to do. It was genuine quality time in the shed so that was a win.

I think I've talked before on here about taking off the boxes from the drawbar and then making a shelf/platform to put then back to make it more substantial.

Well we have done it.

We started by taking off the boxes and then not having a CAD available we, along with Justin, designed what we were going to do.

We then got straight into it.

Here we are adding a little angel under the front edge to mount some naked lady mudflaps

Image

Image

Then it was decided to make a it a permanent fixture on the drawbar

Still fixing it to the drawbar

Image

Then we decided to add some more angle pretty much down the middle, to line up with the ended of the toolbox, just to add some strength

Then we decided to do this

This was a very scientific test of a 7 time re-braized, 11 times repaired power steering hose on the 4.8

Then we decided to add two more little braces at the leading edge. Just in an effort to give the angle where the mudflaps were some more beef. They are a bit hard to see but there will be more later

Image

Then it was onto the good ole chassis black as we couldn't find any hammertone black

All I gotta do now is secure the black toolbox and the plates and it's done.

I would like to pass on a massive thank you to Chris for his time and the use off all his gear. It was very much appreciated. I would also like to mention Chris's fabrication skills. Surprisingly enough the GIC is not square, so the platform had to be constructed un-sqaure which goes against the grain, to match the trailer. Chris did it with ease and everything we measure fitted like a glove.

I can't say enough nice things about the guy. Thanks champion!!

I finally got around to adding the conveyor belt (thanks Justin!!) mudflaps to the front of KT.

Not a real exciting mod, but hey at least it comes with pics

This is the list of jobs I have to do before I go to Fraser in the upcoming school holidays

*Electrify camper. We have the battery, charger and inverter but need to put the battery in and connect it all
*Put in a GPO and a battery isolator
*Run cable and Andersen plug to the front of the trailer so we can charge on the run
*also hopefully removing the switch box from the small toolbox, via an extension cord into the main part of the tent. This will stop us having to fiddle around with the zip and the toolbox door each time we want to turn something off or on
*also need to account for an upcoming solar installation when we wire it up
*upgrade the safety chain on KT to twin chains
*Put end caps on the front of the drawbar
*check wheel bearings, they should be ok but a repacking won't hurt them
*grease the shackles and the tregg (copy) coupling
*strengthen tailgate hinges
*check water tank for leaks, raise the breather and cover up the pipework

Like I said we probably won't get them all done but at least we have a list!

Did some more work to KT today. Just put some rubber at the base of the gas bottles and on the ring as well. And also on the base of the Jerry holder as well. I'm hoping this should stop any vibration /wearing issues

WARNING - my work is like my face - not pretty but effective

Once the glue has cured the tape will come off. I have put rubber on both of the opening parts of the gas rings but only got a pic of one. I also put some rubber at the base of the jerry can.

I also bought the battery box and also in preparation for Fraser I bought from BCF a Quiksilver wide brim straw hat. I got it for $20 which I thought was a bargain
