Crossing the Simpson in a 30 Year Old Ute

Unread post by paul2131 » August 16th, 2012, 7:17 pm

A few weeks back we decided to leave the twin locked GU on the drive way and take up my neighbours offer of going from Brisbane to Camerons corner, down through the Flinders, across to Ayres Rock and them Home via the Simpson in a 30 Year Old 1.8L Subaru Brumbie.

The old girl was only worth $1800, and most of the trucks we came across on the Simpson had tyres worth more than our entire car.

Except for a blown shock following the Old Ghan between Alice and Finke she went well, only got stuck once on a dune in the Simpson and returned very good fuel figures compared to the patrols we had following us...

It was quite an adventure and a real novelty to do it in something different to the usual 4WD..

Awesome, one of the best cars I've ever owned the little Brumby.

I had a lifted wagon - went really well in sandy areas - certainly much better than large 4wds - a great vehicle.

Looks like an excellent trip!
Hoping to tackle some tracks like that before long.
If it can't be fixed with duct tape or a hammer, It must be electrical

I don't know how many times I've been back to read this report. Love the old Brumby's. There's one that looks very similar to the black one on my way to work. Always have a good perve

Yeah might that might be us that your seeing...We are based in Middlepark and keep the brumbies down in Jindalee

Doing it again this June in an L series that my mate got free after the floods

My mate owns 7 of them and they are such a good little car and I cannot wait to get the latest project on the road and heading west

You should pop down one day for a yarn

Woah, seven? Great cars, yeah, but paying rego on each one would cost more than the house!

Reckon it is your's that I'm seeing, I go through Jindalee. Sounds like your mate got lucky, if he was able to restore the L series.

Might have to stop by if I see you out and about one day.

Cheers
