Great photo's mate i was up there early june i wanted to do the Mitchell River Crossing also as i was in Karumba heading north but the locals warned me off it. It looks like you made it across without a problem well done.

Looks like a great trip, did you get much water in your car from crossing the Mitchell river

We called in to Pormpuraaw to ask how the river was, found a Aboriginal Ranger and asked him. He told us he had no idea but some locals came through there from Kowanyama last weekend to play football so it must be ok.
If you dont know the crossing, like us, its tricky with deep holes to drop in. If you know the crossing, its a walk in the park. A car load of Aboriginals came through the crossing about 1000 at night and just drove straight trough without even stopping. We spent about 2hrs sussing out the crossing with my mate spending about an hour or more in the water looking for a shallow crossing. Me, I stood on the bank watching, there was no way I was getting in there with the croc's.
We had a little water(read damp carpet, just) in the pass. rear well and about a table spoon went into the trailer through the tailgate. Pretty happy with that see'ing as my mates patrol soaked all carpets.

just shows that toyota used quality seals, I've never had water in mine but then again i've never been through anything that deep yet.

jimmy66 wrote:awesome pictures wish it were me on that trip dont mean to be rude but what was the cost roughly getting from the tas to the tip ?? fuel wise
great snaps too again
We averaged 18lt/100kms and had a total expenditure of $139/day for 2A and 3K.
As we didnt drive straight from Tas to the tip, its a bit hard to say exactally how much fuel we used but from the above figures, you have something to work on.
