Bought Another One!

Unread post by steelo » September 24th, 2012, 8:07 am

Well now have my 3rd X, I'm pretty sure it used to belong to Foxy (off US forum & according to Ford here in Oz) in SA as it has the same snorkel he had, but I can't seem to get hold of him. Bought this mainly for towing our pop-top van when we turn into grey nomads in 16mths, but still intend to go out & have fun of course. I'll put some pic's up soon but this is what she's got - 2"body lift, 2nd fuel tank, stainless steel snorkel, rear swing out spare carrier, bash plate, front recovery points through bull-bar to chassis, 265/75/16 Mickey Thompson ATZ 4 ribs, 6 leaf heavy duty rear susp, front auto Lokka.

You are a glutton for punishment aren't you steelo! :D

Has that the vehicle got HD rear axles & drive flanges on it? There was one fitting that description only with those running around here for a while, very nice vehicle and quite capable too. Regardless, it sounds like you've got a pretty good tug that should also give you some interesting times without the van! Any pics?

It has the "Brown Wire" mod done so it's a 2wd until I flick the switch, LR will still work in 2wd as well. :D It does make a HUGE difference, I've only just done some light testing as was alone but you definitely felt the difference. Hopefully if the weather holds out I'll be taking it out for a more serious play on Sunday with a group. :thumb:

Looks good,
I never realised they were leaf spring rear susp.
Should go alright off road.
If it can't be fixed with duct tape or a hammer, It must be electrical

Yeah, it wasn't till they went fully independent susp at the end of 2001 & that basically killed (unless modified to the max = $$$) any off-road ability. The leaf pack is a long one (longer than most) which gives it a little bit of er um suppleness I suppose is the term you could use. Easy enough to do a susp lift - wind t-bars up & get a set of over-length shackles, but mine has a 2" body lift & larger tyres so for now that'll do, also wife is just short of 5 foot & already getting the occasional er whinge every now & again LOL :D
