2005 6 cyl 2.5 L auto....some advice ?

Unread post by LilMissRuffit » June 27th, 2013, 8:02 am

Hi guys & gals,

Well after a whole lot of debate,....I am rather sure it will be a Grand Vitara that I'll buy.
Can any one tell me about the 2004-2005 6cyl 2.5 L Grand Vitara ?, as this is the one I want to get....because
they're economical with a bit more grunt than a 2 L plus I don't think they're as heavy as the later model.
Any advice or comments from such owners would be appreciated... ;)

I used to have one and the Mrs has a 2008 model.

The older one, ie the one your interested in, is significantly smaller and 2wd on road. The new one is constant 4wd.
The 2.5 v6 has heaps of power.... Careful in the wet or you'll end up facing the wrong way

The 2.5 is very smooth and reasonably frugal on fuel.

Other big difference is the older one is a ladder chassis, new one is monocoque. Older one is solid rear axle and the new one is independent suspension front and rear. This and the shorter wheel base makes the older one have a slightly bumpier ride.
The older one is easier to mod with a lift and bull bar.

Both go really well. Nice revy engines!
I test drove some 4cyl 2L models. IMO not enough power.

Www.outdoorauto4x4.com have stuff for both models.

Loved my 2.5L model. Only sold it as child number 3 wouldn't fit..... Ended up with a 100 series cruiser! It's a little larger

Let me know if you have any questions.

Finally.......a reply !....I was beginning to worry that Suzuki owners weren't impressed with this model & didn't want to admit it.
Thanks schmik :D & I will take you up on that offer regarding questions.
I find there are quite a few for sale in the year I want in NSW and I'm in Vic :irked:
I waited for 30 min one day, when I saw a 2004 model....when the woman got to her car,.. I approached her in a friendly way mentioning the fact that I too was wanting to purchase the same & that if she didn't mind could I ask her of her driving experience with this Grand Vitara....& she was quite rude & couldn't get away quick enough,.... :(
oh well got you now.... ;) .
Can you get the XL in a 2.5 L 6 cyl ?
Thanks for your advice ,..." I'll be back  "

Check out www.redbook.com.au

Grand vitarra modified for pikes peak run. 1000hp!

The XL7 only came with the 2.7L. Same engine as our 2008 model. Very smooth and very revy. Hits 100kmph in 2nd gear.
You can baby it on the fwy, at just over 100kmph, and get 10L per 100. If you drive like a loon it suck back 15L per 100(suburban stop start driving).

The xl7 and older gv have very solid axles/arms/suspension. People are often surprised when they look underneath at how beefy they are.

The xl7 has slightly bigger wheel Arches. Great for big rubber! The zooks are nice and light but need a bit of a lift for rutted tracks. Sand and mud is no probs.

( schmik )...here is an XL 7...but they're saying it's a 6 cyl 2.5 L.....so does XL7 mean it's a 7 seater...or 2.7 L ?
