GV Missing / Splutting, ideas??

Unread post by RangerPunx » February 21st, 2011, 7:43 pm

The missus has a 06 3rd 1.6 manual GV that is splutting whilst trying to accelerate with anything less than 2800rpm. All gears apart from gunning it in first which can get the revs up fairly easy. Seems to go away if you disengage the clutch which leads me to believe it may be something with the box rather than dodgy sparks or something.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Could be a range of things, if the engine starts and idles evenly, no misfires, no hunting, no stalling etc the ignition is probably ok. If the problem is in the higher rev range it could be: Wrong octane fuel (regular vs premium), ecu fuel mapping issue, fuel injection issue, air filter hose collapsing etc. Hope this helps.

I think the engine is fine. Put your foot on the clutch whilst its splutting and it goes away. Fuel has never been an issue and would expect pinging for a low octane/dodgy batch of fuel but you never know.
I spoke to a guy who used to be a mechanic who owns a GV although slightly different model who said something about a switch in the box that controls revs and matches with the gears etc, ring any bells?

Cleaning the MAF this weekend has help a fair bit i think. Took it for a 20min drive afterwards with little to no hint of splutter.

07 V6 auto Grand Vitara pinging

Unread post by big orse » March 8th, 2011, 7:19 am

Any ides on this one. When the ambient temp is hot (30+), it pings under load. Started running premium unleaded with no luck. Still does it. I am going to clean the MAF sensor, although it looks petty clean. It has only done 45000kms.

For anyone interested, new spark plugs fixed the problem.
