Got or want bigger tyres? Come in here!

Unread post by Nemesis » September 12th, 2014, 4:35 pm

Originally started as a research topic years ago in the older utes sections, the tyre topics are so popular it's time to start an new info archive in each sub section, not just for the older ute people!

What we want is a collective tried and tested database of info on what works for your model fourby. No hearsay!

So, if you have upgraded your tyre size, let us know what had to be done and whether there is any or no scrubbing. What year/model, how much suspension lift, body lift, wheel off set, guard cutting/massaging, gear changes etc? You get the drift.

Fire away and feel free to post supporting pictures!

Tyre size

Unread post by mattyc91 » January 24th, 2015, 9:25 pm

on my RC I currently have 245/75R16 (standard are 245/70r16) , I'm due for a new set and wondering if I should keep the same size I have now or go 255/70r16 which are slightly smaller in height but are then slightly wider. I can't really see much difference to be honest. I only go off road every couple of months and don't want to go any bigger so I can keep it legal and keep the fuel economy down, I have 2" suspension lift.

I have fitted 33's to standard LT rims and have next to no scrubbing, also running a 2 " lift.

The standard rims are 16x6.5, i tried 16x8 +20 rims and they hit the body mounts, so i tried the standards and the tyre just touches the sway bar at full lock, depending on the offset of your 16x7 they might fit, try this offset calculator.

Its what i used to work it out.

That's Kool. Didn't know 6.5" wide fitted 285s.
Very Kool.
What lift have YA got ?

I'm guessing 285s will be too tall with just a 50mm lift !?!

Ok. Kool.
Firstly I like them rims better than the standard steel rims on my LS.
Are you sure they are 6.5".
They don't seem to hang out the side of the rim much. Very neat lookin setup.
Was going to go down size to 265/75/16.... But the look of the 285/75/16 looks chunky.
Dig it.
cheers mate. Appreciated.
