Safe to winch or snatch a 4WD out a Gully/ditch?

Unread post by Bruosk » April 2nd, 2015, 4:59 pm

If the stranded 4WD is in a ditch down a hill, is it safe to winch or snatch off the rated recovery points & recovery hitch on towbar?

I ask as the angle the cable is on might stress the points as its not in a straight line.

thanks

I'm going to go on a limb here and say: I hope this wasn't in need of immediate answers.

Bruosk:
it depends on a lot of things.
if the vehicle is in line with the slope (not on a angle),
where the other vehicle/s are in relation..
how deep the ditch is,
What the stranded vehicle is resting on (tyres in the hole or chassis).

If it were mine, nose down a hill with the front tyres in a ditch and resting on the steps/sliders and I had to get pulled out?
I'd get winched, gradual and controlled removal, no sudden forces on anything and you're not trying to snatch a 2T car up a hill.

If there was a "like" button Kiran 92, I'd have just clicked it.

^^ Sorry guys, this gets suggested to EMG & the IT blokes fairly often, but has always been rejected & still looks unlikely to ever happen! :(
