Hi Fleetwood.

Jack aluminium canopy from MW Toolboxs and 1.8 wide (king size) rooftop tent from ebay.

Great combo, now just have to fit out the canopy.

Evening people. I stumbled across this thread by accident last week & thought that I should get on board because I still have work that needs doing to Henry & there appears to be a wealth of knowledge around here. My daily drive is a 2010 PK XLT that has been somewhat de-XLT'd. I bought it brand new & had it delivered with the usual 3piece lid, chrome sport bar & front nudge bar. I wasn't sure how much of a 4WDer I would become etc. It took me a while to get enough time to get on board but once I did I have never looked back. Rims, rear lid & chrome bar were all sold on Gumtree. The nudge bar was taken care of by a massive roo so it seemed like a good time for an Ironman Bull Bar.

Not happy with the expensive canopies that were on offer I had to design my own and luckily for my next door neighbour has his own welding business so the frame & wire platform were taken care of. The canvas was also courtesy of a mate who has his own Marine Canvas business in East Gippsland - all top shelf but all done with left overs. You would not believe how little that rear work cost me.

Anyway its late & I need to hit the hay & dream of the trails to come. The main reason am here is to learn about getting more lift in the front end. I recently put some 265/75 16s on & I need a bit more room up front........over to you guys.

Cheers Kemo.

Hi Kemos and welcome aboard.

Simple solution to front lift, crank the front torsion bars up mate. Measure between the centre of the hub to the bottom of the Guard flairs, Crank away on the torsions until you get no more than 512mm. Check both sides after a quick spin and adjust again so there is no more than 10mm difference side to side.

It helps to spray the torsion bar adjusters with WD40 about 1/2hr before and jack the front up to releive the pressure on the torsions.

Lift done at no cost but you will need a wheel alignment.

Cheers.

Thanks for that Ranger Stretch. This is going to sound stupid but I was once told that there is no such thing as a stupid question.

Q - there is a lot of stuff going under the front end of Henry.....which 2 pieces of equipment are the torsion bars?

I think I have a fix on what you are talking of but......? In the meantime I will do my own Google diagnostics as well but welcome your input when you can get back to me. Any chance of a pic with highlighted item in question?

Also I may have left out one very important piece of info - the truck actually received the Ironman 40mm lift over a year ago but to me it made little to no difference to the front end. This has become even more apparent since the 265/75 16s went on a month ago.

Does this change the approach Ranger Stretch?

Na mate.

Same approach. You can only take it up so far though as the CV joint angle will get to steep and you will chew out the CV boots or brake the CV's.

The torsion bars do the job of springs, they are actually straight springs that twist, they run from the lower wishbone back to the chassis to the rear of the front wheels,

Hope that makes sense.

Thought it was time I posted a pic of my 2008 BT50. It's relatively stock, apart from the steel wheels with 31" Bighorns and front Eaton eLocker, TJM compressor and Safari snorkel..
Here's a pic of us on No.3 track in the Victoria High Country Queen's Birthday weekend 2015.

Hey guys took the ranger out for a stretch in the bush for the day.

Not many mods - 265/75/16 Yokos MT , 2inch iron man Lift, Snorkel, Breather Kit, Onboard air compressor feeding a 15L reserve tank in the back.
Mods to come (hopefully n the near future) - Front locker ( Sadly ARB South Africa quoted me R23000 = Aus Dollar 2434 cos it has to be imported from Aus so im looking for an alternative if anyone has ideas), Aux Fuel tank , Water Tank & a winch, Chip.

Pic here at Gwahumbe Nature Reserve KZN , South Africa July 2015
