PK Ranger Auto gearbox refill - where's the filler plug?

Unread post by Chuck91 » June 16th, 2018, 5:51 pm

I just purchased a 2009 PK Ranger with the 5 spe ed auto gearbox, I have a had all types of brands of cars but this is my first ford purchase.

I am trying to replace the auto transmission fluid but it seems these models don't have a dip stick or a drain plug. I have read you need drop the pan and then refill the gearbox by pumping ATF fluid into a fill hole until it pours out of the hole, which is located somewhere on the side of the box. After getting under the car I can't for the life of me find this fill plug? Can anyone please point me in the right direction.

I have googled and searched but can't seem to find anywhere that gives me what I am looking for, or the information pertains to the US models which I understand are different to the Aust models. If I have missed a discussion previously undertaken on this topic it would be appreciated if you could point me in that direction.

Sorry about that. I don't know what's going on here because I definitely chose the correct files to attach but this dumb forum (not the people but the software) keeps attaching the files from the original post.

Hey Click, the Forum only has those first 5 pages you posted actually loaded (05-13-13 to 05-13-17), altho it looks like they've been loaded & attached inline 3 times?!? (Second & third postings have the file names updated from page 1 thru 5 to pages 6 thru 10.... ) Did you go back to the source document & copy/re-copy any further pages, or is it only those 1st 5 pages (13 to 17) that you are trying to show/post??! Pages 13, 14, & 15 do show checking the fluid & topping it up to the correct level thru the 'small plug' in the middle of the large drain plug; while pages 16 & 17 show the drain process (thru the large drain plug) & the refill process (thru the small plug in the middle of the drain plug as per the check fluid & level process).... :ooh: Not sure what else you'd need, apart from the specialist fluid fill device 307-D465 that you might hafta buy?!?

thanks Cliktracy, this a huge help - exactly what I was after, thanks. Where did you obtain the service proceed manual for this car, is there anywhere to download free?

I wonder where this fitting can be purchased from to re-fill, or just stick the tube up the hole so its tight and allows the fluid to be pumped in.

Chuck, how many Kms has the auto done. My local dealer told me today that they're sealed for life ?? Does that mean they don't get serviced -- ever ? My '07 has only done 88,000 and had a relatively easy life -- should I bother
touching it ( yet )

The manual says sealed for ‘life’ being 240,000kms. Seems too long for me with the year the car was manufactured in so I would prefer to do partial changes now and then to refresh the oil. So far seems to have made a difference. Mine has 78,000kms.

For interest to others, the dealer quoted me $295 to power flush the auto transmission ( including torque converter )
