Yeah that's the downside when you increase the tyre size. Goes great off-road though....

Ok....265/75R16 BFG KM2s on 16 x 7 Dynamic Rims....need to do a little bit of work on the mudflaps but overall delighted with the results.

Hi everyone, maybe this has been asked before (I couldn't find it), apparently 50mm is max increase before it becomes illegal, so a 265/75r16 is 54mm(ish) larger than a stock 245/70r16 so it would be illegal. But the wildtrack wheels fall within the 50mm requirement. So the question is, if the wildtrack wheels are a factory option and listed in the service/care book is it illegal to go to the 265/75r16 from the standard xlt wheels?
Any help would be great I really want the extra clearance without taking any chances, especially with insurance companies looking for any possible reason to get out of a claim (touch wood).

You need to remember that not all tyres are the same Overall Diameter (OD) in the 265/75R16 size. For example BFG KM2 OD = 804mm. The Coopers STT OD = 813mm. Don't forget to factor that into your calculations. I went the BFG's because they were 9mm less than the Coopers. Miniscule I know but overall makes a difference to tyre scrub on my truck. Can't help you the legal/insurance stuff though.

Just fitted a set of Bridgestone D674's 265/75/16 to my pk ranger. It is already lifted but all I had to do is a mod to the left hand mud flap. Plenty of room!

Hi Guys,

Something to think about that I did!!!

I had to change my car rego from co. name into my name which required a roadworthy cert. the tester said my BFG A/T's in 265/75/16 where to big and I had to change them. I asked him how he knew the size was to big and he said max size and pressures where listed on the sticker in the drivers door jam!!!!!!

I checked this and he was right there is a sticker that gives maximum sizes, so I went to my ford dealer and got them to look up the maximum size sticker for a WILDTRAK and they where bigger than the BFG's that I had, so I bought a WILDTRAK sticker and replaced the XLT one with the WILDTRAK one so, so in future if a mechanic or a copa or someone else looks at the max size sticker they won't know the difference and hopefully won't put an unroadworthy on my car, as for insurance, I'm sure I'm covered because I notified my insurance co.(SHANNONS) of the tyres I had and they said that was fine and made an adjustment to my premium to reflect that!!!!

I have 31" Bighorns on steel wheels (offset unkown) on my 2008 BT 50 dual cab
I have no rubbing issues at all
Not sure if vehicle has any lift or torsion bar adjustment (anyone have the std height measurments?)
Spare wheel/tyre is std alloy with 245/70-16

Love to fit 32s once the Bighorns wear out.

PK Ranger Wheel Rims - what sort can I put on?

Unread post by moocows » July 1st, 2015, 3:34 pm

Hi Folks, thanks in advance for any help.

I have a 2010 PK Ranger Cab Chassis single cab. All standard. The rims are 15" and running 31/10.50/R15LT Maxxis AT980 tyres. Use on farm and on road.
Looking around on ebay etc, I have noticed a lot of cheap mags but they are 16" and may not fit because of different offset (??).

What sort of wheels can I put on this truck please?.
thanks
Steve

16s are no problems, the offset is important with 15s 16s of course, PJ-K should be 0 to -20 I think, maybe even -25.
Go have a look around the PJ-K Ranger Tech section, there's been many threads on wheel / tyres.

I have 16x8 -23 offset, with 265/75r16 mickey thompsons.
I also have 15x7 -12, with 32x11.5r15 bfg km1
and 16x8 -23, 265/75r16 federal couragia
old wheels were 15x7 +8 31x10.5r15 goodyear wranglers and required no lift or cutting.

I probably have no lift currently, although
larger tyres require no front mud flap and trimming of the plastic inner guard and flare. otherwise will touch on the corner of the tyre even with big lift during compression when turning.
I had these same wheels on my bravo with a 4-5inch lift with diff drop and required the same trimming

I have standard factory 15 rims on my 08 Ranger[BFG KO tyres] and have thought about 16 rims but am concerned about 1st gear gearing [high range 2wd] which I feel is too high already on the standard 15 rims.

Do you find the 16 rims make the gearing much worse? The ute is used as an outback tourer mainly with a little on farm work.

Reliability is of utmost importance to me rather than extreme off road performance. Will going to 16 rims put more strain on gearbox, clutch, etc?

Leslie,
Its only the base model that have the 15" wheels. XLT have 16" and PK Wildtrak have 18".
Changing rim size has no impact on your drivetrain, as you change the wall height of your tyre to bring it back to the original size.
16" wheels will feel more stable on the road due to the slightly narrower sidewall. However in my experience, both rims and tyres are far cheaper in the 15".
