hey man my mate has a daihatsu scat for bush bashing and if i were you i would place an toyota 18r petrol engine in it as it is cheap, tough and reliable for offroad use no matter how much you rev it or bash it.

I own a pretty beat up and tired looking baby blue Daihatsu f20 but she is still a real beuty. A good mate of my dads has a green one that he has cut the roof off of and turned into a ute that is ready 4 farm use and it goes anywhere. I bought mine from him 4 $100 dollars and he got it from a wreckers so she was already beat up. When i got it the roof and doors had already been removed and it wouldnt turn over. The old motor was swapped out 4 a toyota 18R petrol (she has the 4-speed gear box) long before we got it which, wen we got it running it had a really loud knocking noise which was easily fixxed by bashing a dint outa the sump which the crankshaft kept knocking on but she still has a bit of a noise which at times makes it sound like a tractor.

When we were putting it in the trailer to take it home one wheel fell of the ramp and bent the muffler real bad so we cut that off and now its so loud but it sounds so BEAST.
Also wen we got it there were 2 different diffs with 2 different diff ratios so it wouldnt go fast in 4wd and was a real bitch to change between low and high range so we put a new front diff in, got the brakes working (the handbrakes only works wen your rolling backwards), stripped anything uneeded and added a rollbar and am planning to add a snorkel as we tend to use it alot in the mud.

Old "Susie" (as we call her) is a real rocket and will take me anywhere and i plan on posting some photos 4 yas 2 see.

my first truck 1970 daihatsu scat ex hunting vehicle accessories: roll cage, gun rack totally stripped and lots of bog.
future mods: green/ black paint job, bed liner tub, fix rust in foot wells, straight pipe, lift, big tyres, land cruiser or hylux axles, engine swap and new seats

A bloke some years back fitted a 253 Holden V8 into one of these. ( A range rover 3.5 would have been better, only for the weight factor ) . Yep a tight fit but had plenty of poke.... Had a two liter escort motor in mine but only had the four speed box.. They sure are tuff little trucks, Wish I still had mine... :waycool::D
F50 was a 4 speeder (mine was anyway)

Scats had the 5 speed box.

Hi all,

Just picked up this f20. I bought it from ebay sight unseen and so far It is awesome. It has had the engine replaced by the 2 litre 5R engine at some stage. There is a bit of rust in it, but not too bad considering.

I've also got a Suzuki LJ50 and this thing makes it feel like a toy, (not necessarily a bad thing). But there's quite a few steep tracks here and it's nice to have a little engine braking.

It came with the doors roof and a steel canopy.

Ahhh the memories. Also the memories and laughs climbing in the back door of a scat as well, until it threw a conrod.

Edit and add >this music< to the OP I reckon  It's only a preview of the track, but small file to listen to. Right click save link - paste into url code :thumb:

Aaahhh yep great times had in a 1984 Scat ...
I converted a worked 2 liter ford escort motor into mine... the only thing that would have made it even better would have been the 5 speed box out of a diesel scat ....4500 revs at a hundred klicks being pumped out of a 2.5" sports exhaust tended to set the ears ringing ... but Ohh what a sweet sound it was, like an O'l Skool rallye car in full song...

Well that was short lived.
I just clipped the edge of my garage door will the top corner of the roll bar and manged to twist up about every panel in the car! The body is toast.

So I got the car of my dreams for $500, then manged to destroy it in a week...
As Kurtis Blow says, these are the breaks!
