F20 Engine conversions

Unread post by CatScat » April 19th, 2013, 11:59 am

Hi Fellas,

I have an old 82 Scat F20 with the original 12R Engine and 4Speed in it. What petrol Engine conversions are still available for these? I've heard Dellow has an 18R adaptor? I was hoping to keep the original Gearbox/Transfer case and running gear if possible; was the 'BB Scat attack' Commodore V6 conversion able to mate up with the Scat Transfer? The V6 would be ideal as they're becoming pretty cheap now.
Any help would be appreciated :D

I did a 18r conversion years ago on my 84 5spd scat. Ive still got it down the farm after I retired it when it got to rusty for rego. it was an easy straight forward conversion and good on the road but used to lose oil pressure on really step climbs. It had a oil pressure fed timing chain tensioner and when going up real steep stuff it would get real rattly. Even changed the sump and pick up but could never work why it did it. The oil pressure light never came on but it just didn't like going up and as soon as you levelled out it would come good.
You could do a v6 like ive done in my rocky but would need a 5spd with removable bellhousing. Ive been keeping my eye out for a f50/scat or a blizzard for a while now so I can do another one.

The 12r is a good motor I had one with a bit of work cam/headwork/extractors and a webber and it was cool and is still going today in my mates f20.

Thanks f75, I ended up buying an earlier Hilux rn25 12R today so will clean it up etc for the Daihatsu, probably the cheapest option I think :-)

The 5r was in the old Toyota stout utes. A place I worked at years ago had a Toyota dyna tipper with a 5r and we couldn't kill it. Everyone tried because we wanted a new one but it just kept going
