94 Feroza Leaking fm G/box - where to get a replacement?

Unread post by feroza_94 » February 25th, 2014, 6:19 pm

Hi, recently got myself a 94 feroza and yesterday i heard a bang noise come from under the car. I pull over to find a fluid leaking from my gear box area (i think). I've got all gears except reverse. I think its time for a new gear box but can't find any in any of the shops I've called. anyone know if theres a gearbox off another car that will fit? or anywhere to find a new gearbox? cheers!

You won't get a 'new' gearbox, but you might be able to find a second hand one at a wreckers, there are a few that specialise in Daihatsu's around the place.... It's probably worthwhile talking to a gearbox reconditioning place too, unless you want to have a go at doing it yourself if you are reasonably handy with the spanners and have a clean/sheltered place to work on it.

I think the Hilux 5 speed boxes of the same vintage come close, but it may be another Toyota that they came from.....

Still, if there is anything out there it will almost certainly be a Toyota offering, as the Daihatsu's of that vintage were basically assembled from the Toyota parts bin or components that were made under licence from Toyota. ;)

Hi, I recently had the same issue and picked up a cheap feroza on Gumtree, I noticed there is one on there atm for $1200, that needs a new clutch.

Also last week there was a reconditioned gearbox on eBay for $395 (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/DAIHATSU-FER ... 5f8&_uhb=1)

I took the gearbox (+transfer case) out of a 1991 Feroza 300 (Series II body shape) and tried to mate it into a 1991 300 (Series I body shape) this weekend, however wasn't able to mate the engine and bell housing the whole way round. This could well be due to my mechanical ineptitude, or there may be a greater issue (would be very happy if someone could tell me if the transplant should have worked). Anyway point is maybe just be wary, as the ferozas may not all have exactly the same boxes between the I's and II's.
