Ordered front & back Protrack Airlockers from Greece.

Unread post by storky » September 1st, 2012, 3:09 pm

Bit the bullet this week and ordered front and back air lockers from Protrack in Greece. Should be here in about 4 weeks.
Be interesting to see how much mucking around there will be.
Stay tuned...

Price doesn't seem to be that bad, 2 x lockers and compressor 1200 euro ( less than $1500) and 120 to150 euro for freight.
Only trouble at the moment is I have to pull my diffs apart to get some measurements for them so when I get them, they drop straight in without mucking around with reshiming them again. And when they get here I have put the gears from my diffs into them, the back diff as 6 x gears in it and the front only 4.I do have a spare rear diff so I'll be taking the 6 x gears from it and fitting them to my front diff just to make it stonger.
Fun and games!!!

They have arrived! This is what you get. Two lockers (no internal gears, use one's out of Rockys diffs.) Wiring harness ready to go. compressor and hose.
Got my weekend sorted.

What model Rocky are you putting these in? And what about cabin switches or how do you activate them?

My Rocky is a F75 10/92 model, live axles. They sent over rocker switches, 1 each for each locker and 1 for the compressor.
But I bought 3 x AOB rocker switches of EBAY. (ARB look a likes). I'll put some more photo's up when I finish fitting them.
They work similar to ARB air lockers.

Got the rocker switches and compressor fitted today, the switches I used I got of Ebay.
Fitted switches where a useless coin holder was, cut it out and it made a perfect holder for 3 x switches.

The compressor fitted just behind the battery, made a small bracket for it to bolt to.

And a photo to show what had to ground in the diff housing, it so you can fit the air pistons in properly.

Need another spacer for back diff before it goes in, hopefully in the next few days.

Rear locker all done. Little bit of trouble as I had to get the side gear lathed so I could fit the thrust washer properly.

Rocky is all back together now, been for a hi way test drive, all good.
I did replace all bearings and seals in diffs, wheel bearings and swivel hubs as I went along as well.
Have to wait for a week or so till can really test them. (other commitments)
And if everything goes good I'll be putting some footage on utube.
Let you know when I do.

Here is my first attempt videoing and editing, it's only the first test run and not to challenging.
The hill climb before I get to the camera is a lot steeper than it looks. Hopefully better footage next time.
