Could be a cv on the way out of maybe a wheel bearing?

check the tyre tread, might have rocks in it sound something like.... "CLACK CLACK CLACK CLACK CLACK"

1. when does the sound occur?
2. what does it sound like?
3. free wheeling hubs?
4. got mud flying around in there?
5. mud in the tyre tread?

if none of those are the problem-
jack up both front wheels and lock the hubs, make sure it is in 2wd, and turn 1 wheel, the other tyre should rotate (direction depends on if you have an LSD)
if the other does not rotate, look at the CV shaft (the axle that goes from the hub up to the diff) is it turning? if not, you broke a hub, or broke a CVshaft ~$100 2nd hand hub, ~$200 brand new cv shaft

Holden
Ebay (weak)
or
import from America

that is it :(
your best thing to do is get one from the wreckers though, they are cheaper, and don't suffer the aftermarket lack of quality syndrome

have a squiz at the photo- it's taken from behind the drivers side tyre
jack up your fronty *both sides*, lock the hubs (if needed)
does the other tyre turn?
does the CV turn?
does the hub have that "click" and firmer feel when you lock it in?

Yes the other tyre does turn
Yes the cv does turn
If you mean does it click to lock in the 4wd yes it does amd it does feel firmer.

I had a look and i think the noise is coming from the top boot but not 100%, I took it off to try and see but cant see much. Can you buy or re-built this part?

here is a photo of a jackaroo (close enough to the same suspension) can you edit it in paint and draw an arrow to wear you think the sound is coming from?

if the other tyre turns, the CV isn't broken.
by the sounds of it, it's a dud bearing

If It was a dud bearing it would be doing it all the time, it does it most when it is in 4wd and you are turning right. How do you check the bearings, and why wouldn't it be a cv?

well after work i decided to take my cv out anyway cut a long story short they dont look broken to me. Could this noise come from the wheel bearings being lose or a shagged bearing, because i really dont think it a cv

You checked the cv's now the hubs.
Sounds like a locking hub might be stripped. You said it feels firmer to "lock in"
With both hubs locked jacked the front off the ground. Turn the RH wheel. If it turns the left wheel then the hub is locked but might be on its way out. If the other wheel doesnt turn the locking hub is probably stripped
as per chikorolls first post.
