Just a question, I have two recovery points on my vehicle one front one rear was going to add two more however when I got the bullbar fitted, I asked for recovery fittings so I could bolt on. I was told you don't need the extra one on the front as the bullbar has them (holes for shackles). ARB Steel bullbar.

I am now thinking for the sake of $20.00 I may just put the extra recovery point on.

Is it ok to snatch from the recovery points on the bullbar.

yeah the bull bar has them but not a lot of people trusts them for a really stuck or a big recovery as they have torn before there was a post a few months back where someone ripped threw that mount on a arb bar but i dont remember to topic name to search for it in the great search section on this site

I seem to recall from earlier posts that you have a rodeo, and if this is so I would be a bit wary about the standard recovery hooks
They are attached with 10mm bolts, and I cant remember the maths, but apparantly these bolts have a lower safe working limit than the breaking strain of a snatch strap.
What I have done with mine is drill & tap the standard mounting holes to take 12mm high-tensile bolts, and also mounted a rated hook with 12mm bolts on the left-hand side front onder the chassis.
Some clubs have a requirement for a minimum of 12mm bolts on recovery hooks for club trips, so maybe there is something in it.
I have never seen the standard hooks go balistic, but beefing them up sure helps your peace of mind

On seeing that, i think i will have to fit my own. I'm just pissed off now i was told they are recovery points. Simply because time is running out for me to go away and this is one VERY important thing to get done.

Hang on, how can a winch bar (assuming it is a winch bar) be good for a winch but not good enough for a recovery?

I'll pose another ..... I went to buy my shackles and went to a place that makes chains and I have used them many times over the years.

On asking for 4.7t rated I was quoted $20.00 :o :o gezzzzzz I can get them down the road for $11.00.

Yes i'm sure you can and its Chinese steel not Australian big difference.

Ok my point is ....... 4.7 t rating in both so how good are these shackles. I saw the snap strap test and many failed to meet thier claim.

I would hate a shackle to split and fly.

they have differing levels of carbon content ect, but steel for certain jobs are the same, they buiy most of the ore from un anyhow, a rated shackle provided it is to the relevent AS you will be right, and the $20.00 revovery hooks are fine, sewe my oher post in the other thread on what imo is the best way to atach to the chassis, PM me if you want to have a chat about it

I use the ones on my bullbar, but I also use an equalizer strap, so the load is shared between both of them & so if one fails, there is less likelihood of a projectile causing major harm.

I guess using an equaliser strap and a dampener would also help in case of a failure somewhere.
