Look forward to seeing you build this up.

Atleast you'll have a kick ass 4x4 by the time you get your license!!!
ya gunna do a spring over
No a spring over is illegal in QLD :'(
and its already illegal atm because the tyres stick out past the gaurds :-X

Congrads mate. that no. doesn’t work either mate ::) had a nice chat to some chick called kelly :P
Looks good, paint is nothing mate, and its going to have to come off anyway. I'd be carefully about sand blasting as well, as if it has lots of rust in it, its just going to blow huge holes in the poor thing. Start to poke around with the screw drive and you'll find the bad ares. Then hit it with a hammer and see how much of your body falls away lol.
You did well with the rims and tyres, look good and will do well for rd tyres :P A 2" springs/body and shackles will see you running 35" claws no worries + a lil chopping. A tube bar on the front will look sexy 8) and your going to need a new one as you wont get past rego without one.
I got an 80 series bullbar that is on the way ;D
the body is coming off anyway.
and the chassis only has surface rust by the looks of it.
i plan to get the body off asap so i can get the chassis away and start working on the body.

Thats a weapon Haz.. U definatly have ur work cut out...
Its definatly gunna teach u a thing or 2.... ;D
Thanks for all the good replies.
I have been thinking about things aswell 8)
as this wont be a daily driver i have thought about:
Welded front diff
Detroit soft locker rear
body lift
35" claws ( the price that twisty got looked to good :o)
I may have a Chev v6 i can get for a couple hunderd $$$
Today i had a chat to my mum and she said that if I re build it that i will find it very hard, so she sujested that i ask around at restoration places that may do these kind of things. I said that it will be very expensive and with the money i could save i could get other things done to it.
What are your thoughts?
i will go out and get pics of what it the wrost of the rust and put them up later.
Btw this is a serious question ! i want to know what i am getting myself into ::)
if your willing to take your time and research things a little you should be able to do it yourself. will be a lot of hard work. and wont happen overnight.
A 1979 BJ eh Andrew, you will be seeing one around this forum very very soon ;) ;) ;) ;D ;D ;D
Nice pics hazza, shame about the rig :P :P :P
I'll race ya too completion eh, teheheh. Don't listen to Reddo about the sand blasting, just watch the type of "shot" I used etc and see how mine comes up before you decide against it. After all, Im sure reddo only went the other way because he lives on the convict island with no blasting facilities nearbye ;D ;D ;D

my tip would be to look around for a 60 series that has been rolled or smashed in on the sides are rear end thats going real cheap and swap all the running rear over. i know of a guy that did this to a ute so he now has a 5 speed geerbox, power steering ect.

i had actually thought of this ;)
i will give the wreckers a call when the time comes :)
well looks like i have got a holley carby and a battery so if all goes well it will run on the weekend ;D and then the real fun begins ;)
Good stuff Hazza, mine is runnin like a champion now, even drove it yesty ;D ;D
hey hazza
congrats dude, looks like you finally got a 4by, awesome base to start on too, well done mate
you mentioned in the first post you wanna put a ute body on it, go for it dude, it'll be heaps better for off road work, less body to worry about in tight gaps or on rocks/trees, it'll be HEAPS more stable on climbs and if you get a good one, you wont have to worry about any of the rust then either
i totally agree with 4runner2.8, get a wrecked 60 series, you'll get a bigger motor, 5spd box, and wider diffs for better stability plus if its been hit or wrecked etc, you should be able to pick it up real cheap
you cant do SPOA in qld, but you can do coil conversions, and you can do em pretty cheap too, if you do it yourself and fab everything up, it will be very price similar to an aftermarket off the shelf leaf lift kit
seriously dude, if that sounds ok, you could do that pretty cheaply, and i'd be happy to come and help when i come up to brissy and at the end of it you'll have an absolute weapon
one big bit of advice i can give you is, DONT RUSH IT!!, if you cant get your license for a year and a half anyway, then take a year and a half to build it up, go slowly and do it right
Well my cousin and me spent most of today on it to get it running good and it runs like a dream ;D he re-built the carby, and put new spark plugs and leads in and took it for a drive :D
but it ran out of fuel ::) :-[
It is having a bit of trouble starting and the battery that i got the other day is almost dead ::) but other than that it is fine.
Today i also got a toyota bullbar and a spare tyre 8)
no new pics, it hasnt changed ;D

Dont listen to Tony. Toyota couldn't be bothered getting the 40 series right three decades ago, so what chance do you have now? I say, rush in, do a cheap job, and drive the guts out of it ;D (thats the theory behind my MQ)
