Just wondering what ppl think.
Centipedes at 5psi or Chains on all 4 wheels?
What would be better?

chains should not be used in snow, despite the name SNOW CHAINS should only be used on icy road conditions to break thgrough the ice and give traction on the road surface. Chains in snow will dig you ine, wherfe you really want to "float" on top of the snow where possible by usinf the lowest pressure possible. internal beadlocks would be a better investment, anbd used on a muddie such as BFG or MTR would get you the furtherest
Centipedes running 3psi or thereabout would be better, isn't there another thread n this or am I having a seniors moment :P
If you are that serious for hardcore snow though, a set of (two) chains would be a good thing to carry as well as the centipedes. Kinda like the, "winch or lockers first" argument. Really low tyre pressure will get you a long way but if you get stuck then it won't be pretty getting out, and to get out you would need chains...

GO THE PEDES ;D ;D ;D
dont go the pedes, peded are a thin tyre, in snow you want width, why go a 35x10.5 when you can get a 35x12.5 or 13.5?

I've never been on snow but if it's anything like sand i'd have to agree and go with wider tyres which would help you stay on top rather than dig trenchs till you hit the diffs. Think of it this way you wouldn't ride a push bike in soft snow or sand but tractors will drive on it without any dramas because of the size of there tyres.

As RageRacing said, say no to Chains. Chains are the biggest hindrance in snow driving. Last year I had the displeasure of following a double locked all wheel chained 80 in the snow. I was in my unlocked GQ on 33s at about 10 psi. I had to pull him out about 10 times over the day. It got boring.
Low tyre pressure, and subtle application of the go and stop pedals are your key to successful snow driving. unless you are in a Suzuki then plant the foot and have a ball ;D

subtle application of the go and stop pedals
got it in one, the most important thing is easy does it, basically idle through the deep stuff, 1000 to 1500 rpm is fine

Handy to know !
If I ever get the chance to get down to the snow, this was good reading to put into the memory bank. Good question Mad Dog.
Cheers guys.
Interesting read this thread...
Last time we went to the snow but, i had trouble in parts where there was ice under the snow...
I rekon with snow, the taller the tyre too... A lot of loss of traction cums with snow getting built up under the vehicle and lifting it up taking pressure/traction away from the tyres.
