Ya I know ;D But we have hit a problem and if we don`t get it fixed by either tomorrow night or friday morning it want be going on its first run this weekend. It starts and idols fine but when you try to rev it it breaks down badly at about 2000rpm, then when you let ya foot off and it goes back to idol it hunts up and down in the revs ???

Wat do these 1UZs go like in a 4b? I know they've been done b4 and they proly fly on the tar but I always had the feeling they'd b a bit revvy for the bush. ???

Hopefully I can tell you after this weekend. I have rockhopper crawler gears in my t case with a low 1st ratio of around 90 to 1 so it should be ok for me.

Twisty has a 1uz in his runner and has been driving it for awhile now so he will be able to answer this.

Bugger that yours is playing up Guts.......it'll end up being some little tiny thing...hope you get it sorted quick...

As for the 1UZ offroad the only complaint I have is the engine bracking doesn't seem to be as good as the old V6....not sure why but?

Even though peak power and torque is higher in the rev range than the old motor, its still got just as much or even more down low then the old motor, so its not a problem at all.

Ok after somelate nights of double checking EVERY!!!!!!!! wire we disscovered the air flow meter was stuffed. Jumped in the camry and drove the 3.5hrs (each way) to Melbourne on Friday and got a new one. All worked sweet after putting the new AFM on.

Ended up leaving home at 6am Saturday morning and took the lux for a drive in the Strathbogie ranges. Man its great being able to turn in to a corner at around 50ks in 3rd high and then power on and end up going around the whole corner on oppisite lock sideways.

For those asking about the torque, well combined with 4.88 diff gears, 4.88 rockhopper transfer case gears, 36 swampers its perfect.

It didn`t all go sweet for the weekend thought and I have a small list of things to do before it goes out again.

Power steering pump died and I had arm strong steering for most of saturday.
Fuel pump relay died, that was easily fixed.
I forgot to turn the thermos back on after I had turned them off to listen for the fuel pump and it ended up blowing a hose. Its all ok thank god.
Water pump ended up leaking BADLY!!!!!!!!!!!! and put a stop to the driving saturday evening.

All in all though it went good and they are just the normal little bugs you get after doing a rebuild of this size.

Its lives again ;D

Yep the new motor is in and running.

Complete with,
cleaned injectors
rebuilt starter motor
rebuilt alternator
rebuilt power steering pump
remote oil filter and oil cooler fitted
gauges are all hooked up and working great, temp sits on 80 not that I have driven it much yet (only to exhaust shop and home again)

Rang engineer on Friday (yesterday) and he is coming to look at the lux on either Thursday or Friday next week. Had a bit of a chat with him and it all should pass ok.

Have a trip coming up on the 5th and 6th of November and I am trying to have it registered for that.

Engineer just left my place after looking at the lux.

All is ok, just have to,

enclose pod filter (easy)
send him a copy of break test
and he has to check on the year that niose tests are neeeded from as he thinks it is after 93. If this is needed, then it only has to be under 94db and I have to esnd him a copy.

Who are you using mate?

I'm going with Athol at Cardiff, is only charging $440 which is pretty good (motor, body and tyres.)

Anyways, he said to me in regards to noise test:

"Test is at or above 3/4 of the revs corresponding to maximum HP (note no
relation to redline). The limit for a pre-'83 vehicle is 96dBA. '83-on
is 90dBA."

TIC
cost me $550 at my place and he is from Sydney. Him coming here saved me about $500 return in fuel to tow it to Sydney and back :o

Should have the paper work by end of next week which means it will be re registered by the following week. Then I`ll be out driving it again ;D

Will have my engineers report here either Monday or Tuesday via express post. Hilux is booked in for blue slip on Wednesday and if I don`t get time to pay the rego on Wednesday it will be done on Thursday 8) ;D

Only thing that is being done on the lux ATM is I am getting my front calipers rebuilt, will have them back tomorrow arvo.

OK hilux went for its blue slip yesterday, got knocked back on a few little things.

Lights bolted to roof even thow they weren`t even hooked up.
reflecters needed on rear corners of tray
oil leak from rear output on transfer
exhaust needed another bracket.
High beam not working.

Fixed all of these yesterday arvo and had it back in for a reinspection at 5pm. Picked up all the paperwork this morning and now the hilux is registered again :D

In about an hour and a half we are off to Toolangi to give the hilux a full workout. :D
